Not sure but I can say I personally would never take a pair of scissors to ANY of my shoes lol . But hey I mean they’re his . Whatever makes him happy

Oh nah, i agree he can do whatever he wants. Just the whole thought of the elastic being removed to make them easier to put on makes no sense.
