Big difference is from 1980 to 1984, there were only 2 series' before the Finals.
There was also like 22 teams in all of basketball during that era. IE, fewer teams to even reach 50 wins.
Magic still reached 13 series wins over 50+ win teams, and his 5 titles, and he did it in a shortened career. He retired at 31, right where Bron will be in 6 months.
Magic played in 39 Playoff series from 1980-91. This will be Bron's 33rd.
When is one of y'all gonna bring some of that up?
I have to do everything around here?
I'm reppin JD because at least he goes back and reviews actual facts. Good stuff man. (surprised the 89 Blazers are on that list, truly. )
You're big on mileage so didn't that actually work in Magic's favor a bit? He finished a Finals series on May 16th in 1980. in 1983 it was My 31st. I'm just curious if you factor that in at all.
Sure it'll be a footnote to you who had Bron #2 all time I believe, but for those who keep touting his consecutive Finals appearances like it's such an accomplishment while ignoring the competition he's going up against, well it's proving to not be that impressive especially if he keeps losing in the Finals in spectacular fashion.
That's right. Because I care most of all about how someone plays. I don't need ESPN graphics. Kobe averaging 15 points and missing a game in the 2000 Finals discredit one of his rings for you or nah?
On Michael Jordan..
When do we discuss that on his 1st return to the game hand-checking had been done away with, the use of the forearm was gone in '97 and he had a shortened 3pt line in 96 and 97 (take a look in the spike of his attempts and %'s) and still there was no zone. The game had evolved (or deteriorated) into half court slug-fests where he could operate out of the triangle on the weak-side of the floor and play 2 on 2 with nobody clogging up the paint. Or that for his Final 2 final appearances he got the Jazz who's 3 best players were well into their 30's? Are we putting this as part of the story? If so, why not? Remember this while LeBron is chasing around Klay Thompson and seeing 2 guys at the rim on the other end Thursday night.
You can slap caution flags on every single one of these guys if you dig around enough. LeBron's in the East. But you're a fool if you think he's not one of the best ever. Watch the tape.
