I know it's Fox news but still....... I hope North Korea is just bluffing. Seriously Obama should just give me the key and let me push the big red button.I got a bad feeling about North Korea and it may be too late before anyone takes any action. Unfortunately Bush has squandered all our military resources onplaying war in Iraq. I think North Korea is a REAL threat that needs to be addressed. They're reckless.

They wont do !!@@.

They know they have the ability to start a World War and be blown off the face of the earth. They're just SCREAMING for attention for more resources

AP NEWS

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July, a Japanese news report said Thursday, as Russiaand China urged the regime to return to international disarmament talks on its rogue nuclear program.

The missile, believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometers), would be launched from North Korea's Dongchang-ni siteon the northwestern coast, said the Yomiuri daily, Japan's top-selling newspaper. It cited an analysis by the Japanese Defense Ministry and intelligencegathered by U.S. reconnaissance satellites.

The missile launch could come between July 4 and 8, the paper said.

While the newspaper speculated the Taepodong-2 could fly over Japan and toward Hawaii, it said the missile would not be able to hit Hawaii's mainislands, which are about 4,500 miles (7,200 kilometers) from the Korean peninsula.

Going to post this once again (sighs):

"Each time the US used an aggressive policy topressure North Korea

into giving way, the latter became more recalcitrant. By contrast, when Washington

relied on a more cooperative attitude Pyongyang usually respondedwith

concessions. Tension on the Korean peninsula thus decreased onlywhen the

US adopted a 'give-and-take' diplomatic style in recognitionthat Pyongyang's

recalcitrance can, and should, be read as a bargaining tactic to getsomething in

return for giving up the nuclear option."

Seriously Obama should just give me the key and let me push the big red button
How do they do that...without South Korea feeling the effects of that big red button also?

sooo NK is gunna shoot a missile at Hawaii , resulting in the US bombing their country into non-existence ... ? yall should know by now these dudeslove to bluff

They are not a threat.

I'll say this again, they DO NOT want us to flex our military muscle, especially if it involves the Pacific fleet.

We have close to (since they did raise the threat awareness level)30,000 troops, not to mentionallied forcesin Korea as it is.

The capabilities we have to destroyNK inunder a half hour, are tremendous, to say the least.

Only eyebrow I'd raise would be at North Korea's allies and it still wouldn't be enough.

We have the edge in :

- Air Combat ( If they want to inflict harm, they'd have to do it from the air attacking our Air Force and Navy, and they do not have those capabilities)
- Naval Combat - We could mobilize quickly and pound them from a distance (pause)
- Ground Forces/Land Capabilities(sure numbers)
- Not too mention new capabilities from NORAD ( that missile would be shot down period, if deemed harmful)

and the biggest factor

- Resources -> North Korea's people are living in hell, they simply do not have the resources to go the mile with the U.S. (alone)

Think Operation Shock and Awe

the thing is any violent act that commit on OUR SOIL is grounds for a war . its not like this threat is coming from independent NK suicidebombers , its coming from the nation's government

Koreans don't have suicide bombers to my knowledge, they are far from Muslim Funamentalists and still quite a while away from Kamikaze's

If Kim doesn't back down, then we have no choice but to put him in his place and in that case, our military muscle would be flexed.

We could blow his Nuclear Operations off the map, this should be understood, but the United States does not want to engange in any conflict(as the Presidenthas said before). We'd engage if we felt threatened or felt as if any one of our allies or floating sovereigns was under duress. The United Statesdoesn't need or wish to engage in any nuclear offensive against North Korea. The only way we attack is if they attack first and that's where we sit atthe moment. If we act before they act, then we are the agressor and the image we are looking to push to our foreign counterparts, is wiped away with an orderof "fire at will".

Different terrain, different enemy. Things get shady in Iraq or Afghanistan when you do not know who's friend or foe (even the children)

As one of the guys above me said, Al Queda has suicide bombers and pledge their lives to murder in the name of their believed cause. We have seen what NorthKorea looks like from within and out, once calling for sanctions, due to their poverty and lack of resources their citizens have.

Afghanistan is a mountain terrain and it makes it tough to transport and treck into. Hike in the mountains with about 60lbs of gear on. It's just an entiredifferent ballgame there with the logistics and strategies that must be employed.

North Korea is just north of an allie and is surrounded by water. It'd be tough for them to defend all sides with absolute efficiency. Strategically, they've already lost.

If NKorea tries ANYTHING, we're going to have FULL support, even maybe more so than after 9/11. The list of countries that support us will be unbelievable,if nothing else because almost everybody wants Kim Jong Il out. Japan, South Korea, and most of the EU would assist with forces or some sort of aid, but themost interesting would be China. China has been pissed off Kim Jong has been testing weapons all over the place up there, told him to stop, and he keepsmessing around. I'm not saying it'd be 100%, but given the recent boost politically and economically between the US and China, I almost think ChinaMIGHT feel obligated to help out. Realistically, every dollar the US gov't spends on fighting NKorea is another dollar China is further away from gettingpaid back on buying US Bonds...again, it'd be interesting to see.

Oh ya, and NKorea seriously does not want to test us, especially with nukes. We have limited nuclear warheads (nukes that have a specific radius and muchsmaller than the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki), and we could literally put that country in the history books for good.

This is our Pacific Fleet as of 2008

It has changed quite a bit since then, but you get the picture. If Japan brings their Playstations, it's a wrap
