Do you guys typically use drum loops like the one in the link or compose your own sounds with individual kicks, snares wav files, etc? Kinda feeling loops right now, anything else sounds fake to me.
I have never used any kind of loop, but to each's own. I have a homie that only uses loops, and he just samples them all into his own synths in logic basically. Its a lot more work, but definitely different end results. As far as Drums sounding fake, you probably just need to play with EQ on each individual sound until you find what you like.
Man, what creditdentials do I need for a job at GuitarCenter?

but nah seriously, do you have any studio monitors that you would recommend. Want to get into mixing and mastering tracks in the future. Also nice album on bandcamp.
That's great! I've been getting into playing the keyboard a little just gotta keep up with it so I can get better. I want to learn the guitar/bass too soon.
You may need an audio interface or some type of amp, not entirely sure
Check out the Yamaha HS5 or HS7 series! Got mine from Guitar Center definetly one of the best investments you can make along with some Monitor Headphones.

Chop the individual hits from a loop and layer it with other sounds.

For me I usually do the latter. But occasionally I'll take a loop and extract the pattern/groove, then apply that groove to my own set of drum sounds. So if you knew the drum break you would recognize it, but the drums themselves would be different

I just like having control over the individual sounds, being able to eq each kick, snare, etc individually. If it sounds fake, it's probably because 1) you maybe aren't starting out with great sounds to begin with/the right sound for your particular track or 2) you aren't EQ'ing them right.

Just look up good professional sounding drum kits for the type of music you're trying to make. If you're doing hip hop for example look up Croup drum kits

Thanks. A college degree helps? :)

Monitors depend on the budget. In this industry, you really do get what you pay for.

High end: focal, dynaudio, Adam
Prosumer: Yamaha hs, KRK rockit
Consumer: maudio, Yamaha msp

What do you guys think about that Apple the complete recording studio with mac mini ? Is it worth it I can't seem to get any reviews on it.

I'm trying to invest in a home but portable recording studio basically

I actually assisted with the box design for this product.

That being said, it really depends on what you're trying to do. It's geared towards singer/songwriter/rapper folks and would be rather...ok, if you're trying to make beats. It's a good basic bundle, but I'd need more info to recommend you something proper

So none of u guys have a portable recording station ?

My portable studio consists of a MacBook Pro, ableton push and a mackie onyx blackjack. I recorded One Be Lo from Binary Star with this setup at a UCLA guest house and it sounded fairly good.

I got a simple setup at home as well, Macbook Pro, Duet Interface, Logic X, Maschine Studio, And a Nice Rode Mic.

Does the job anywhere on the rode as well.

Appreciate the reply. Well basically I'm looking to record rap/hiphop material and later on down the line make beats. I'm a novice when it comes to this so I don't wanna spend unnecessary money on equipment I don't need as of now.

So.. I'm looking for beat...

I started writing music when I was like 12.. And got prty serious about when I met this dude in high school who was real dope and already had tracks recorded.. We would write songs together and he would help me by showing me how to format my songs and all the basic stuff..

Fast forward a couple years later and I haven't written a song in like.. 7 years..

I'm at the point in my life where I need to make a decision.. Either put 110% into the music and pursue a career, or drop it and go after some bull 9-5 job..

So as I was saying.. I'm looking for a beat... One beat..
I wanna write the best song I feel I can make..then go get it recorded and mixed in a professional studio..

I'm going thru ppls sound clouds that have been posted on here.. But haven't found the perfect one yet..

If anyone has a beat they'd like to hear someone do something with.. Send it my way

you should probably be more specific. What kind of song are you writing?

Geeplus Appreciate it homie all that mentioned is it good for a beginner

I never have a problem making the skeleton out of ill samples and such, and my drums ain't really that bad on they own, but they muddy in with the track and never sit right in the mix. When its all together, the drums either overpower the sample or the sample take the slap out the drums. Like other dudes said, it make the drums sound fake and amateur a lot of the time. I keep grindin' tho cuz the essence of what I'm doin' comes thru to a degree, but I gotta spend time this summer getting refined.
