Something to keep an eye on about Oregon. It's a lot, but you should read...

I'm gauging this off of past experiences with tenative coaches and Oregons past:

Nate Costa (backup QB with a few starts under his belt) is out for the season for the Ducks. He is more of their vocal leader than Darron Thomas and he provided this offense with much needed security, who run that triple option to near perfection. With Thomas in at Q, Coach Kelly always knew if the unfortunate happened, in Thomas getting hurt, they had more than a viable option to come in and lead this team. Not anymore.

Teams can gear up on Thomas as they run this triple option, disregarding what happens with LaMichael James, as zoning in on Thomas could weaken his presence in the game and maybe get him out of the game early.

If you remember correctly, a few years ago when Chip Kelly was the O-coordinator, an injury to Dennis Dixon cost them the Championship game...Quite possibly. That history could prove to be huge for bettors.

Given how explosive this offense is and how weak Cal is relative to the Ducks, -20 seems like an easy play. However, keep in mind that all of the above will weigh heavily on coach Kelly and this teams viability in not just getting to the Nat'l Championship, but fielding a team that can win that game.

Watch for Oregon to jump out ahead and ultimately win this game. Beware, however, that Chip most likely will pull the plug on Thomas early in the 4th giving Cal the opportunity to cover the spread. This is something you need to keep in mind for tomorrow.

UTEP= new players, AND new coach.

Quotes from Tim Floyd (new coach of UTEP)

"We're trying to get ready for an opponent that will probably be in the NCAA Tournament this year," Floyd said. "We're STILL very generic right now."

"We'll probably be running 20 or 30 plays before the season is over," Floyd said. "But right NOW we've got one play in. This will all continue to happen up to January because our biggest issue is there are no carryovers....NO players from last year who KNOW the system."

Because it is his first season with the Miners, there are obviously NO players returning who already know his system, his offense, his defensive principles.

Pacific on the other hand returns its top three scorers and eight lettermen from last year's 23 win team. Sam Willard, 6'9, senior forward averaged 11.7 points a game. Demetrece Young, 5'11 senior guard, averaged 9.6 points a game. Terrell Smith a 6'4 senior guard averaged 8.7 points a game. Senior Pat Eveland was the Big West Conference Sixth Man of the Year last season, averaging 7.4 points a game.

I have a lot more to say about this game, but I'll just keep it short.......Pacific +8.5

NCAA (NT) 1-0

3-1 yesterday. back in the swing of things.

One today..

George Mason -7

I'll say this and probably end up struggling this month, but I think this first month and a half is when you can have the biggest edge on the books. at least for me it has been.

Dropped 4 units yesterday. George Mason couldn't hold on in the final minutes and the Hawks blew it in the end. Should have at least forced OT if Horford could make free throws.

3 noon plays today:
Northwestern +10.0 -103 3 units
Minnesota 1H +12.5 -105 1.5 units
Minnesota 1H O 27.0 -115 1.5 units
