Speaking of hopslam... I went into my local shop on my way home from Tuscaloosa and found two cases left. The guys at the counter told me they got it in a little after 130 yesterday and I bought the last two cases at 330. Got a total of 12 cases. Had a guy offer me twice the price of a case for one six pack. I gave him a sixer at regular price. Felt bad for the guy.

Nice, I wish I can find some in Northern Cali. Really interested in trying that.

Auuumazing. Too bad my spot has it at 7.99 a bottle, 1 per person. I have to say I enjoy it more than pliny the elder

Made the most out of a shopping trip. Keeping it all local. LC doing some big things right now with bombers.

Elevated x 4 x 4
Project dank batch #3 (1/31/14 bottled date)
Cafe con leche. Milk stout that I've never tried

Dank is making waves of its own. After winning a GABF 2013 bronze in the IPA category, it got bottled earlier this year, and is slowly climbing the rankings at review sites (sits #4 for top IPAs *only 28 reviews. It's a young bird making some big waves.

Odell's Lunges chocolate milk stout is out again. I chose that bomber over a similarly priced 4 pack of Lugenes. Let's hope it's worth it.

For starters tonight. Keeping it simple. La cumbre a A slice of Hefen hefeweizen. 5.3% Abv

I think it's a dead heat between kellerweis by SN and this one. That yeasty fruitiness seen in many euro beers is not quite there. I tend not to prefer that. The euro beers tend to take on an apple cider like taste/quality. Smell is banana, bubble gum and cloves. Carbonation is mild. Not quite as crisp and dry as the euro beers but still tasty. 93/100. I can't see many getting closer to perfection. Style match is perfect. This ones a tough grab because it's priced higher than elevated, and has less ABV. I like their IPA so much this one may be a less frequent purchase

They're both based out of Ohio, so Im not sure if they sell this kind of beer at your locations, but i suggest you trying Great Lakes beer, or Fatheads beer if possible

Hold up. $8 for a 12oz bottle? I was gonna ask where your spot was cause I know you're in OC, but **** that. I refuse to support any liquor/beer/wine store that marks up stuff to that degree.

Yup that's for the 12oz bottle. They did the same with bcbs. It sucks paying that much but I doubt I would have gotten to try it otherwise.

We had what seemed like a fridge clearing party.

A friend brought some beers back from Colorado.. Somewhat of a random choice. He enjoyed a few on draft and thought he'd share with us.

Bristol Brewing out of Colorado Springs... Out of the six, only 2 seemed to stand out just a touch. Their Laughing Dog Scottish Style Ale was above par, and their Winter Warmer Oatmeal Stout was decent... The rest all seemed to be about average. Not undrinkable or terrible. But just kinda meh.. The BA scores on all of them kind of worked out in perfect form here. We liked their 84 and 85 rated products.. We would likely not buy again. Too many choices and chances to try something else. They all didnt seem quite as crisp and clean as they could have been flavor wise. Something seemed a bit 'home brew' like.

We threw in a Omission Pale ale to the mix.. It was a bit sweet, a bit bland.. Kind of eh... it actually tasted a whole lot like their Mass transit ale.

After going from their honey wheat, to their main ale, to their pale ale, then scottish ale, then their oatmeal, and finally their IPA.. We made it to the big boys table.... Each of the Bristol beers sat around 5-6%. But this next batch was the walk away favorites.

-Backwoods Bastard. Vanilla and Bourbon dominate the smell and a bit in the flavor. Quality all around. Deserving of its BA score

-Founders IS- Just about the all around the favorite among everyone. Just a well balanced beers through and through.. The hops are hidden nicely and its not too sweet, not too bitter. Again, easily worth the 97 BA score, or higher

-Victory Hop Ranch- Maybe the best smelling beer I have smelt. It has a grapefruit like quality to it. Like a candied citrus smell. Flavor matched the smell. Highly drinkable, maybe too much. Again, a beer worth its ba score of 95. It drank like a 6% beer. I was shocked to see 9% online. The hop like bitterness where your cheeks flinch a little isnt quite there. It's something different that I havent tried before and love.

- Sixpoint Hi-Res... This one was a bit syrupy in mouthfeel and texture.. Maybe it was the other 10 we tried beforehand but the hops didnt seem to BOMB us in any sense of the hop bomb wordage. Solid tasting stuff. It didnt seem overpowering at all, like many are saying about it online. The hop aroma isnt quite there, along with the hops in the taste. It was missing a bit... I'd again say the BA score of 93 is about right.

Comparison Ford, I gotta give some thanks to you for giving me this great chance... Founder's just blows me away.. Even Victory.... They seem to be in dozens of states but not my own. Whoever can get their products are treated with something truly special. Quality allllll around.

Nite cap part 1:
-Ten fidy canned 13 months ago... Comparing it to initial impressions from Founders IS isn't positive for Ten Fidy. This stuff tastes a bit one sided. Is prunes or that bourbon like sweetness that takes over a bit? They are vastly different types of beers.. Sadly I tend to prefer the stuff I can't get my hands on easily, the Founders IS..
- Weihenstephaner Hefe.. When poured correctly the crispness of this brew takes it to another level, even over my own local brew, la cumbre a slice of hefen. I can see that one is rated where it is..

Part 2 coming up.
-----------------

In other news, has anyone ever had an IPA that seemed to be extremely bitter from start to finish, 3-4 beers later? There's a local brew, Exodus IPA (Il Vicino) who has won some state IPA challenges in the past. I picked up a growler last week. Something about this beer made it a touch harsh on the palette. Every drink, the beer would hit the back of my mouth cheeks and just stun them with bitterness. From HT, to Hi-Res, some types of hops or methods of hopping seem to bring out the best of hops. And others, bring out the worst... After seeing this beer win against the likes of Elevated IPA, I have to wonder what some people expect of hops in their beers. HT and Elevated will coat your mouth with hops, but it tends to have a few balanced drinks as your mouth is getting situated.... Exodus has none of that. It is bitter through and through, with a type of a grassiness/pine that makes it feel a bit abrasive and hard to drink after a few. Is that more west coast ipa?

Victory at sea and hoptologist. Victory at sea was amazing. Hoptologist was meh. Roommate swore by it. Citrusy on the nose but grassy on the taste

I'm a huge fan of hoptologist. One of my favorites. :lol

Haven't really looked through his thread but anyone use the app Untapped? Helps me remember my favorites :lol

Living in New York, I can get my hands on Heady Topper about 4-5 times a year.  Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you pretty much have a 0% chance of finding any in AZ.

Found out a few weeks back that my family is having a reunion at vacation resort up in Burlington this July.  Already put in a vacation request form at work.  Best believe I'll be stopping by The Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, and Lawson's Finest Liquids.

No problem brotha. Glad you are getting your hands on some hopslam!

I will name my next child comparison Ford if you mule back some of everything you mention for me. I've considering taking a road trip up the east coast solely based on those three places. My wife thinks I want to look at trees in the mountains. I have that at home in North Carolina haha!

Oh best believe I can send you at least a 4-pack of Heady and whatever other goodies you'd want from Lawson's and Hill Farmstead.  I'll keep you posted.

Went to a Double/Triple IPA fest on Saturday!

$60 for 10 pours. Pliny the Younger was tapped, but gone within 20 minutes of opening. So mad I missed out. But I will be going to my local bar to try it on release day.

Highlights for me were Hop JuJu and Shmaltz RIPA.

Bell's arrived on Long Island today.  Turns out the place that promised me a 6'er of Hopslam didn't get any, and most other places only got a case.  I was in OR clinicals from 8-5 and by the time I got out most places had sold out.  Luckily the hospital I was at is located near a small beer distributor and I was able to buy two bottles.  Somewhat let down, but beggars can't be choosers.  Picked up 6'er of Two Hearted while I was at it.  Gonna crack open a Hopslam once I'm out of the shower/finished eating.

So much hype for the Younger on my FB feed right now

People bragging about waiting in line for 12 hours for a glass :|

^ Mann 12 hours. I am off this Friday, and was going to take my girl to Santa Rosa at the brewery to try it early Friday... But I don't know about 12 hours.

Last year I would have had to wait in line for 1.5 hours at 9:30am to try Younger.

Who the hell drinks that early. lol

I'm good.
