NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Wasn't a fan of Mosaic Promise from Founders... Grabbed a 4 pack of Curmudgeon and it was as good as ever... Will stock the fridge with Breakfast Stout and the shelves with Bourbon for the winter months.

I was down near San Diego today and picked up some Bell's.
And my nephew works at Whole Foods and surprised me with some Pliny.
Gonna be a good Sunday.

Oh and Wally, I got you on Parabola 2015 when it's released. La Cumbre stuff for Firestone Walker stuff is a good match...

We have a 2013 coming up. Let's go Chargers!
I've had that but I believe mine was a 2012; talk about a beer that pours like motor oil but it was very good. One of my favorites.
@Based Mod damn. it was 14 at total wine lol.

i probably won't open it for another month or so. prolly just gonna save it for a certain occasion.

my first sour ale though, it was delicious. soo sour and tart, can't wait to try other sours.
My cousins have been looking for this, Pumpkin ale brewed with chai tea.
That Chai was a TOTAL let down for me when I had it.
Pumking was pure sex last night

*I want to say thanks to those who suggested spots to hit up in CO but unfortunately that little trip went in the complete opposite direction. I did pick up these 6 which I've never had and in all reality, they only one I would suggest would be the one in the can. The rest were pretty plain for the most part.

I kind of understand why Founders doesn't deem it necessary to distribute out to Cali (at least yet).  If you look at Founders' year-round releases, there's really nothing all that spectacular going on.  You guys have much better readily available IPAs, pale ales, etc. than what Founders offers up on a regular basis. They probably wouldn't make too much off of those releases, which are their true profit-generators. Most people seem to only want Founders for FBS and KBS.

Adding to this, Founders' distro is...not the best, to say the least.  Any "new" beer we get from Founders is at least a month old by the time it gets to NY.  I can only imagine how bad it would be for California.
I work for phoenix beverages and had a convo with one of the managers at food town in the bx. He tells me a lot of people ask for their stuff but they always have inventory issues.

I was down in Socal this past weekend. Lots of beer of all styles which was fun. On Friday, had a bunch of steins hooked up from my boy who works at Wurstkuche in Downtown LA. And then on Saturday went down to San Marcos, toured Stone Brewery and had Enjoy By 10/31 on tap which was pretty awesome. My buddy filled up a growler of SublimelyBlack Ale to take back to the telly which we enjoyed on the lake.

Socal NTers, can you tell me where my boy who lives in Downtown LA can get some Pliny? We went to Buzz, a bottle shop in downtown and they didnt have it.

Since Im not an expert with beer.

If I wamted to pick up like 2-5 Pumking bombers and save them how long can I save them for?

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't age a pumpkin beer very long. 4 months maybe?
Pumpkin beers are brewed with spices that are very warm and assertive. You age that and I think it will all mellow and muddy those flavors too much.

I picked up an 11 month old bottle since I found one at a California bottle shop and had never had it before. It had more of a custard flavor and less spice forward. It was still really delicious.

@Meyer23 hmm didn't know that. i don't know much on sours though but it was delicious nonetheless.
That's just what I was told when I asked where it was. The guy said "they are good but they aren't real sours."

I guess real sours are brewed with bacteria which is tedious because if it's brewed too long or too short, it can be ruined.

What constitutes a "true" sour, though?
From my understanding, anything brewed with Brettanomyces.

I've keep bottles all fall/summer before opening them because I would buy a case or two before the season was over and keep them for a rainy day and/or drink them during the holidays and such. I've noticed no difference. (With that said, I keep them in the fridge all the time).

I think the issue is that "sour" is really just an all-encompassing term for any beer that's sour.  A beer doesn't need to have brett to be sour.  It can contan lactobacillus, pediococcus, and a bunch of other wild yeast strains or live bacteria. "Sours" can be anything from American Wild Ales, Flanders Red/Brown Ales, Berliner Weisses, Lambics, Oud Bruins, Krieks, Geuzes, Goses, etc.

Thanks. That's why I said, "from what I understand". I guess I could of Googled it but I'm lazy

Left Hand's Oktoberfest is darn good stuff. It's on the same general level of Santa Fe Brewing's, Shiner, Sam Adams, and Flying Fishes... I dont know what it is. I guess its not a very popular style. These beers are sitting low on the BA score scale.

I finally tried this years La Cumbre's Oktoberfest.. Very good at 5.4%. Crushable to say the least.. Their pumpkin beer at 7.5% is right up my alley. The pumpkin spice notes need some BODY to back it up and this sorta delivers.

Gonna be a busy next couple of nights of drinking here in Denver...

Tomorrow night is the What The Funk?!? festival. All sour and funky beer fest presented by the mighty Crooked Stave. And all are poured by the brewers themselves, not mostly by clueless volunteers.

And the missus just won two tix to GABF Friday session. So that will be insane as well. Haven't had any Saint Archer & I'm stoked to finally get a chance to try their stuff, plus the usual craziness like 3F, New Glarus, etc.

Anyone coming in town for GABF or WTF?

^^
If you have a chance to try anything from Smog City Brewing out of L.A, do it.
Best brewery in L.A., in my opinion.
