I know loses will happen, but these ones hurt. The ones that had open opportunities to take over

, bases juiced with 1 out, and nothing.

The offense clawed back, pitching just wasn't there, they dug too big of a hole.

Like we said before the season started, the inconsistencies of the pitching is really gonna cost us some games.

The same story with Kershaw, falling behind every hitter and making WAYYY too many pitches.

I'd love to see JMac get that long reliever spot, have Mota get those 1-2 outs, have troncosco as another long reliever - hope and pray Schmidt can providesomething or look outside of the organization and sign a fifth starter.

I don't really know if its Kershaws mechanics or just him not trusting enough in his stuff, always falling behind.

The offense was there for the first couple innings, but they were stuck on 3 runs for the longest - they let Russ Ortiz settle in

and couldn'tcapitalize on his mistakes.

James Loney was pressing too hard in his hometown, maybe BaPe LonEy was out there cheering for the Astros and got to him, iunno. Loney is one of thosefundamental hitters at the plate, but today he just looked so awkward.

Oh well, not a good way to start the road trip.

oh yeah, kemp had to score on that bunt especially with pudge throwing to second.

kemp had to be at least going halfway down the line.

baserunnin blunders back FTL

(could have been 4-4)

Scouting Report:
DODGERS: Wolf showed his resiliency on the mound as he bounced back from a rough first inning against the Rockies on Friday. He allowed three runs in the first, including a two-run home run, but then pitched five scoreless innings. In all, Wolf tossed six innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out a season-high nine batters. He is 4-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 11 starts against Houston in his career.

ASTROS: In his last outing, Oswalt threw 108 pitches over six innings but didn't allow any runs against a Reds team that he has dominated throughout his career. Oswalt took a no-decision when Jose Valverde blew a save opportunity in the ninth. Oswalt faced the Dodgers once last year, earning the win after allowing one run over six innings. In his career, the right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.63 ERA against L.A., spanning eight starts.
Oswalt is another pitcher who hasn't looked the same since the WBC.

Tough loss, but hopefully Wolf brings his good stuff today as he did in his first start .
Crasnick On Remaining Free Agents
By Tim Dierkes [April 22 at 12:52pm CST]

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has a new article up looking at a bunch of free agents.
 • Crasnick talked to one American League exec who views Pedro Martinez as "strictly a National League pitcher." Coupled with his price tag and long layoff, the market isn't big for Pedro.
 • Ben Sheets is weeks away from a throwing program. He's probably a ten-start guy this year, but interest figures to be strong.
 • Geoff Jenkins is taking grounders at first base to increase his versatility.
Dodgers Interested In Mark Mulder
By Tim Dierkes [April 22 at 9:31am CST]

Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times has more information on free agent starter Mark Mulder, after talking to his agent Gregg Clifton:

Mulder is working out and, according to Clifton, could sign in one week and throw 100 pitches in a major league game in another two weeks. The Dodgers, with one starter on the disabled list, are among the "six to eight" teams interested, Clifton said. And how much contact has Clifton had with the Angels about Mulder? "Literally none," Clifton said.

Classic agent-speak - he is somehow not sure whether six, seven, or eight teams are interested in his client. But so much for the report yesterday that Angels GM Tony Reagins contacted Clifton regarding Mulder. Shaikin says Reagins is doing fact-finding on free agent pitchers, with the search even extending to the independent leagues.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe wrote Sunday that in addition to the Dodgers, the A's and Nationals are extremely interested in Mulder.

A couple updates on Pedro & Ben Sheets.

I put Geoff Jenkins in there because he could be a lefty hitter off the bench, since he's trying to improve his versatility - I wouldn't be surprisedif the Dodgers take a look at him (with mien out).

As for Mark Mulder, we already have Schmidt on the bench ... but Mulder seems like a low risk high reward, sign him for less than a millie and see hisprogression.

the longer pedro doesnt sign....the less chance we will sign somwhere. unless he takes a big pay cut/brings down his price a lot

I like the idea of Jenkins, but that's only if Torre can't find a enough starts for DeWitt.

Salaries:

Jason Schmidt 15,217,401
Juan Pierre 10,000,000
Chad Billingsley 475,000
Matt Kemp 467,000
James Loney 465,000
