Scouting Report: Astros: Moehler's streak of consecutive quality starts came to an end at four when he was roughed up Sunday against the Mets. He allowed eight hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings, which was his shortest outing since back-to-back awful starts to begin the year. The good news is he's 5-0 with a 3.98 ERA in six games (five starts) against the Cardinals in his career. He held St. Louis to six hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings on July 20 in Houston in his last start against the Cardinals. Cardinals: The rookie will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday to take Todd Wellemeyer's spot in the rotation. Wellemeyer was demoted after struggling to the second worst ERA in the Major Leagues at 5.79. Boggs made four starts for the Cardinals earlier this year when Chris Carpenter was injured but was unable to pitch past the sixth inning in any of them. Boggs made eight appearances in 2008 but had a 7.41 ERA. He has struggled going deep into games but seems to have corrected that in Memphis. He gave up one earned run in his last three starts at triple-A before getting the recall. Said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa of Boggs: "I think he's pitched effectively down there. He's a developing pitcher and he's learning all the time." |

Scouting Report: Astros: Rodriguez held the Cubs to one run in seven innings Monday in his final start in what was a stellar July. The left-hander went 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in five July starts and has won five consecutive decisions. His 10 wins lead the team and are tied for his career. He's faced the Cardinals twice this year, holding them to four hits and one run in July 21 in Houston. In his second start of the season April 12 in St. Louis, he allowed five hits and three runs in six innings. Cardinals: Even though he hasn't always been extremely sharp, Carpenter was very, very effective in July. In five starts, he went 4-0 with a 1.62 ERA, putting him in consideration for pitcher of the month honors. He remains the same pitcher - power sinker and cutter, curveball and changeup, all with quality command. He's been even better at home than on the road this year, allowing only one homer at Busch Stadium in 2009. |

Scouting Report: Astros: Norris, who was called up following Tuesday's game, will make his first Major League start in place of injured ace Roy Oswalt, who left Tuesday's game with a lower back strain, flew to Houston for further tests on Wednesday and received a pain-killing injection. Norris allowed one run in three innings in his debut Wednesday against the Cubs. Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the system, Norris, 24, was 4-9 with a 2.63 ERA in 19 starts at Round Rock this year, allowing 104 hits, 53 walks and striking out 112 batters in 120 innings. He was a sixth-round pick in 2006 out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Cardinals: Wainwright tamed the powerful Dodgers offense to the tune of eight scoreless innings on Tuesday night but didn't do it with his normal dominating stuff. Wainwright gave up eight hits and got into several jams but buckled down when he needed to and escaped damage. He also got several strong defensive plays, including two by shortstop Brendan Ryan and one by third baseman Mark DeRosa. The workhorse needed 111 pitches to get through eight innings, the 10th time this season that he passed the 110-pitch mark. He finished three outs short of his first career shutout. He last faced Houston on April 11 and tossed five shutout innings. |

So you actually believe the Cubs are going to win this division? I don't see the wc coming from the Central.Originally Posted by CP1708
That's ok, I like the idea of making the playoffs 3 years in a row, sooner or later we'll break thru........
Besides, we never had been to 3 straight, at least not since the early 1800's......

Damn, all i said was "I hope so." , as in, I hope the Cardinals lose.........it always comes back to the Cubs and their fans ...its cool though. And the fluke was the lack of offense, the offense you see now, that's the real deal. Cardinal fans fall back.
Different tastes, too, as far as the Marlins' marketing people go. At one point in the game, they trotted a goat onto the field. On the video scoreboard, there was a between-innings segment when Cubs logos were burned. OK, it's been 101 years since they've won a World Series. The Cubs don't need to be reminded.
"It's tasteless," Piniella said. "This place here, they always have some gimmick that basically doesn't make any sense. I don't know who dreams of these things.
"When they come to Chicago, we don't have fried marlin or anything."
Maybe they will next time.
More proof that Florida is one if not the worst state for pro sports. Fact.
