On Locker....
MOBILE, Ala. — The criticisms of Jake Locker weren't inaccurate after the first day of practice for Saturday's Senior Bowl.
They were, however, incomplete. Because after he was erratic on Monday, Locker was pretty darn exceptional during the North team practice on Tuesday.
"Things happened better for him today than they did yesterday," said Ken Zampese, the Bengals' quarterbacks coach.
Cincinnati's staff is coaching Locker's North team this week. On Monday afternoon, Locker had one pass intercepted and another tipped in addition to a number of passes he fired high.
On Tuesday, he was not only more consistently on target, but he showed an ability to vary his throws depending on the receiver's route, putting air under a pass headed to a receiver on a go route and putting the ball on a line for a route toward the sidelines.
Of the six quarterbacks here for the Senior Bowl, Locker is the only one widely considered to have first-round potential, a fact that clearly stood out during Tuesday's practice.
Locker benefited from familiarity with the targets he was throwing to as well as his flexibility when it came to suggestions offered by the Bengals coaches.
"He doesn't have any preconceived notions that it's got to be like this or that," Zampese said. "No, no. He's ready to soak it all up, and that's going to serve him well as he goes, because the only way you get better is to jump in with both feet. You can't go in and fight something. You've got to go full in."
Locker will be fine...And that's not based off of this article.
I guess the fact that he is consistently high on his throws, misses wide open receivers even when he isnt pressured, and is always good for a couple ground balls a game is no big deal.
No bias involved. Guaranteed.
