Smhh now he's gonna stop working on his game. He'll have a down year just like hibbert did after he got his contract

But you don't want to piss him off or have him not play hard in hopes of not injuring himself either.

And Woj and Y! mis-titled the story. I believe George will get a five year deal potentially worth up to $90 million if he meets the requirements.

PG is young and one of the top SFs in the league. He's already one of the best defenders in the league and he's improved a lot every year. There's not one team in the league that wouldn't give him the max. You lock him up as long as possible.

Doesn't that okay into the whole "he was going to get paid anyway" scenario? Almost the same situation Harden was in.

But I do agree in a sense that paying him like he's the franchise guy does but them in a catch 22 type of situation. Is he or isn't he a 1st tier franchise type of guy.

I would let him walk before giving him 18m annually, especially since their owner is adamant about not paying luxury tax (and arguably rightfully so since their attendance is always abysmal). When the extension kicks in the 14/15 season, they'll be paying Hibbert 14.9mil, West 12mil, Hill 8mil in addition to George's ~18mil or whatever it comes out to with the raises and I guess incentives built in.

Then find a way to move West and Hill when the time comes.

Without Granger, you need a franchise cornerstone. PG24 took a huge step in the star direction last postseason.

Still room for growth.

Judging how Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay got similar deals, George falls in line with them. Still, I don't think he'll ever be MVP material or considered among the very best... it's a move Indy had to make.

well that would be dumb.

he is a max player, plain and simple, if you're a small market team like Indianan if you manage to draft your way into elite talent you retain them at whatever the cost.

Cap space simply isn't worth a whole lot to a team like indiana.

You can either have Paul George, one of the 20 guys that actually make a difference in this league or you can overpay mid tier players and get eliminated in the second round every year.

Double edge sword if your Indiana, if you let him go your a mediocre team, if you sign to the big contract + what your paying your starters you limit your bench which hurts you in the playoffs. I would rather keep him and go from there.

It's clear that some people ignore defense. It's crazy that this is even a discussion. Indiana damn near had the best starting 5 in the league for a reason. PG was a huge part of that on both ends of the floor.

So hes a 23 and 7 player this year?

This is the difference where I could potentially see him keeping his value better than a Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay, his defense. I still don't think his offensive prowess will every get to an elite playmaking level but he should still be fine with his skill set and size

Paul George is already better than TMac ever was though.

You have PG24 and Hibbert. Still you have no #1 option. I highly doubt a top FA would want to go to Indy. Do they have any lottery team's draft picks?

Very well built team, but once again PG24 is not a #1 option.
