Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

Y'all really think Kyrie and Rose are comparable at this point in their career? :eek :rollin

Did you not watch the Finals?

How is that a question?

Patrick is a pitbull, he plays good defense, so why not ?
Replacing good efficient offense for great defense. Not a bad trade. Depending on what the team needs.

Their defense are comparable and so are their playmaking. Yes.

We have plenty of offensive people, so i would welcome Patrick with open arms.

This generation is turning into a PG league, might as well get one that plays good defense.

I was referring to abematic.

He made a direct comparison between the 2.

How is it not about skill level? That's what sports is all about :lol

Just because they're both scoring PGs doesn't make them comparable. Kyrie is a much better scoring PG than Rose.

It's literally like comparing Rondo to CP3 because they are both pass first PGs.

All NBA players fit into a certain mold that is shared by other players: scoring PG/ Pass 1st PG/ Slashing SG / Long Range shooters / Back to the basket Bigs / Passing Forwards etc.

That doesn't mean Bradley Beal and Courtney Lee are comparable because they're both good long range shooters.

Derrick Rose & Kyrie Irving/Steph Curry are not in the same stratosphere currently.

You're just leaving out the part about Kyrie averaging significantly more points, assists and steals.

Plus the fact that he can open up defenses with his outside shooting and his clutch factor.

I'd take Kyrie in a heartbeat over D. Rose. Anyone with sense would.

Rondo and Cp3 aren't comparable because cp3 is a much better scorer. Both are pretty equal in terms of passing ability.

No two player are exactly alike.

Comparing players doesn't always have to be about skill level. Just traits.

Best comparison to Rondo would probably be Rubio. Both can facilitate, play D but are allergic to scoring. The biggest difference is that Rondo is a head case.

You're talking about offense, Knicks don't need offense right now.

What i'm referring to is, defense.

Defense.

Lol

You can't just strip Kyrie of his offensive abilities and focus on his defense. Gotta compare players in their totality.

But Kyrie is still a much better defender than Rose at this point. He can actually keep opposing guards in front of him and lock up when he needs to.

Their playmaking ability is just about equally suspect.

But you asked who we would pick between Rose and Irving.

It's not even comparable.

Like asking who we'd rather between Jordan and Steve Smith.

Who in here wouldn't want Kyrie as their starting PG over D. Rose?

Kyrie and Rose's defense is much the same. The difference is that LeBron and company can mask Kyrie's defense. He was getting washed on D the first 4 games of the finals. Just whoever Kyrie was assigned to kept scoring. And then the Cavs figured out how to mask him.

Just because I say Kyrie and Rose's game are similar doesn't mean they're the same player, or of equal ability. Kyrie is better than Derrick. Doesn't mean they're exempt from comparison.

Both are score first penetrators. About the same on defense.

Kyrie is just wildly better at what they both do.

As for Steph, I can't find anyone to compare him to. His game is different from every other active PG. [emoji]128514[/emoji] Closest comparison is probably white dude who used to play for the Kings. Again, Curry is just wildly better at what he does too.

Someone should start a Derrick Rose thread since there's so much debate about him. I will say he has some ride or die fans though.

i don't think he's comparing Rose and Irving in terms of who they are as players. i think he's comparing their play STYLES. in terms of style, they both are very similar. both are score first PGs that don't look to set up their teammates all that often, and both are liabilities on defense. obviously, Kyrie is way better than Rose, but they are similar players. that being said, i don't think having Kyrie over Derrick would make us THAT much better. we'd still give up a ton of points. our problem is defense and inserting Kyrie doesn't help that at all.

speaking of 2k and Beverly, i always traded for him in MyLeague :lol

i have no problem with drose... hes actually a decent player... but sometimes he doesnt use comman sense when playing... he will jump in the air when passing and then cause a charge, he passes the ball to a teammate but throws it like hes randy johnson, he tries too hard in the end of games to takeover and turns the ball over and sometimes hes lazy on defense like in the phoenix game when booker hit that 3.... other than that i actually like him and hes our best pg since marbury... when he scores hes efficient and doesnt chuck and miss a lot, he gets to the basket at will and gets his points or breaks down the defense which leads to an assist... i wouldnt mind him resigning here just not for the max

I don't have any problem conceding to Kyrie in a direct comparison. Kyrie has earned my respect after that finals performance towards the end. Kyrie doesn't get nearly enough credit with LeBron hogging it all, but that's a topic for the NBA thread.

If Derrick was at mvp level though...

Sigh

Big ifs. Probably will never get to that if.

Anyway, I would consider Kyrie the number 2 PG in the league even though he is mainly score first.

Do you see how I am relating this point of emphasis to this current Knicks team?

I didn't even bring up offense because both can score, we know that and let's not nitpick on who's the better scorer, the argument is good/great scorer but poor defender.

Hypothetically, of course.
