Frey is a good coach, but was just a bad fit for this team.
They had just spent two years working on gap stuff, and then when he came in they tried running a lot more zone ( IU was a OZ/IZ team), and it didn’t work. Midway through the season they dumped the zone stuff and went back to the gap stuff the guys were comfortable with and the run game got going again.

Teams have caught up since MSU's peak on D, but FSU is one of the few schools that can recruit the athletes to run something that simple.

Not sure, I’d imagine that he’ll run a bit of it but i’ve heard conflicting thoughts on what will be the base D. They haven’t been given the “playbooks” on O or D yet. Taggart seemingly wanted to do this
