Padres and Phillies starters going 7....

Dave Roberts takes out a pretty good Anderson after 5 and you know the rest...

I was thinking about it. But after the initial shock from Saturday night, cooler heads should prevail to an extent in how they approach the offseason. The San Diego series shouldn’t warrant some crazy panic moves. But addressing what works in the regular season doesn’t translate over to October is key.

They don’t need to make some huge roster overhaul. They don’t need to pursue every big free agent on the market either. They can make some tweaks to address what went wrong for them at the worst possible time without a huge overhaul.

In terms of tweaks, some guys have been getting by on name recognition alone for a while now who are automatic outs and that should be addressed.

Rotation wise, It doesn’t have to be the cool big name sexy moves. But getting some type of depth in that regard because the lack of that would’ve been magnified had they advanced past San Diego.

I just want them to allow the starters to pitch 7 innings if they are ok and under 100 pitches....

Something we did in the regular season then stopped in the playoffs...

I was reading this earlier. If the bullpen moves and quick hooks are 100% Dave Roberts moves, his seat should getting a lot more warmer.

Like if you want to get cute during the regular season with your bullpen and lineup experiments. Have at it. Even if it comes at expense of some avoidable losses. You don’t want to wear guys out and it’s an opportunity to find out what works and what doesn’t work. But as soon as the playoffs roll around. That quick hook stuff has to go if your guy is dealing.

I find it weird for a guy who was a player as long as Dave was in the 90s to be so beholden to the numbers. But I guess he wants to stay on the front office nerds’ good side and keep his job.
