There was literally no precedent for Luka's performance as an 17,18, year old in Europe, he and Dragic then carry, Slovenia, a tiny *** country to a Eurobasket title.

and yet he falls to 4,

-passed over for a center who doesn't play defense,
-a big with only one hand,
-and a PG who was an elite shooter for like 3 months in his entire basketball life.

The NBA is amazing.

To me the Trey Young thing is somewhat defensible, he's a worse prospect, but at the very least.

a) Trey fits the mold of superstars in the current NBA, guys who can run pick and roll and score and pass in all the 3 levels.
b) from a pure asset mangment POV you could argue it's smarter, you get a second lottery ticket.


But taking bigs that don't play defense, is pretty indefensible. You can hid Luka, Trey young, can't hid bad defensive C's and their offensive impact is lower.
