I just think those dudes would have better stats if they played today with a more open mindset the game has. We have dudes today who play the same type of game, just with more freedom to run and shoot.I’m not buying the assumption that guys would be better in this era. Able to play in any era vs better than the current guys?
Not me
If we're talking about pure talent and ability, I'm taking KD over everyone on that list not named Michael Jordan. And even if we're not, when it's all said and done for him, he'll finish as the consensus number 2 behind Jordan. And he may honestly surpass him depending on what happens in NY over the next couple of years.
Agreed. Definitely gotta be cautious of assumingI’m not buying the assumption that guys would be better in this era. Able to play in any era vs better than the current guys?

Yeah I didn't really even mean to open up THAT dialogue. I was mostly just talking about Bird in particular when comparing guys like KD to him, because he had the ability to do everything, but arguably his best skill was somewhat diminished because of the era he played in, when compared to KD.I’m not buying the assumption that guys would be better in this era. Also, can’t talk about physicality without also talking about the old illegal defense rule that made it easier to iso because the help defenders had to either hard double or stick with their man but no in-between. Couldn’t have help defenders waiting on the strong side of the floor like you can now. That’s why the league is way more pick and roll heavy now.
Jordan was fortunate in the sense that pace was very fast when he came into the league and stayed fast during his athletic prime, then slowed to a crawl as he aged, bottoming out in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s, then began to speed up again after the rule changes in ‘04. So it lined up perfectly for him.
It's not his game he gets judged on. If he stays in gs he could win fifty rings, and people would not put him there. He goes to New York and doesnt win anything, which is what would happen because it's the Knicks, hes nowhere near the top. Hes already pissed this generation off.If we're talking about pure talent and ability, I'm taking KD over everyone on that list not named Michael Jordan. Are we saying “better” as in stats or something else
Stats compared throughout diff eras is almost pointless
They were the floor spacers though. This logic would be more applicable to guys like Shaq and Hakeem where they'd have more room to operate since the spacing was better and teams couldn't just crowd the paint to defend them. We'll never know, but guys like Lewis and stoyacovich where tall lengthy shooters in an era of teams throwing guys at shaq and Hakeem. The emphasis on floor spacing would have helped them immensely.

Idk why Jordan was used as an example. He fit his era perfectly for reasons I've gone over before. He was the best iso scorer in an era of iso scoring, and he also wasn't a great three point shooter.
I member when dudes like the big country dude were high end draft picks, that's where the focus was. Those dudes would get eaten up and exhausted today.
Lewis only averaged 7 once, peja never averaged 7.Peja and Rashard were getting up 7 threes per game in their prime, they’d be the exact same guys
