“I learned a lot of things watching Kawhi while the game was going on,” Antetokounmpo said. “Like his patience. From the way he operates. He operates in the mid-range area. You saw that? He took the ball a step inside the three and faced up. And now he’s got everybody. He sees everybody coming, right? So, why was he doing that? You know why? Because he felt really comfortable in his mid-range game.

“He got a lot of threes out of the pick-and-roll when Brook [Lopez] was back, a lot of catch-and-shoot, a lot of transition threes, but when it was a set game, ain’t nobody shooting threes. It’s the toughest shot in the game. He was going to the easiest shot in the game, that people think is tough, the midrange, like the 15 foot, contested two – something that all the greats do: Kawhi, Kobe [Bryant], [Michael] Jordan, KD, LeBron. When he won the series against Toronto, he was shooting mid-range shots.”

Under [Mike] Budenholzer, Antetokounmpo’s mid-range game was de-emphasized. Last season, 37 percent of his shots came from the mid-range. This year, just 21 percent came from that same area. It was a change Antetokounmpo understood as he destroyed opponents like never before, but one that ultimately took away reps from some of the shots he felt he needed to beat the Raptors’ tough defense.

“I feel like this year, it was just, ‘Boom. power through … guys,’ ” Antetokounmpo said. “And then my back was hurting. I could still play more. If we were playing today, I could play. I could have an even longer season, but at the end of the day, I want to be more skilled. I want to make my game easier.”

“And it’s something from Year 5 to Year 6, I was like, ‘Yeah. OK, I put on seven pounds of muscle. Bro, I’m the most dominant guy in the ****ing league. I’m just going to go and ****ing dunk it.’ You can get away with it to a point. It’s good if you’re able to do it, but I gotta be more skilled. I gotta get back to my old self. Think like a guard, not as a big.”

:pimp:
i love it!!!

He can grow as a man and as a player playing against pros and making money. His folks are going there with him too.

Kid got great talent and should be the #1 pick in next year's draft.

And here's another "he needs to be grateful" type of dude.

 Isn't that typically how folks choose colleges anyways?

I mean, I kinda get what Seth is saying. Probably should have just not tweeted anything though.
Not really man, isn't that what that whole press conference to choose a school and put on the hat is? They don't know till they know at the last moment. Trippin all of a sudden.

Harden isn't aware of that apparently
Yeah harden and the rockets pretty much assumed the face of analytics without folks realizing that they took it to an extreme

With that being said it took them quite far so it is what it is.. wouldn’t be surprised him adding that in as soon as next season anyway

It's not the point I would've ever tried to make. I agree with you.

Yeah this should serve as a wake up call. Not going to win against an elite team in a 7 game series with having your game be THAT extreme. It's not like he's Ben Simmons and afraid to take the shot.

15 foot shots aren’t the same thing as long 2’s though

the thing is people act as if every form of a midrange shot is contested when they talk about it. Giannis literally just mentioned a coach who's probably gonna win COTY telling him to pretty much forego midrange shots even if there wide open.

Everything he stated in that piece is ALL Iv'e been saying when i criticize people for telling players to lay off the midrange, It doesn't have to be your go to shot but having the ability to successfully pull up makes the defenses job so much more difficult and opens up so many more lanes to the basket.

https://basketball.realgm.com/article/246574/CBA-Encyclopedia-Tampering

Here is an article that gives the actual text of the anti-tampering rule. Based on just the language of the rule, I don’t think what Doc did qualifies as tampering. But the article indicates the league has historically interpreted the rule to prohibit a coach publicly commenting about a player on another team. That seems to make any appearance by a current coach on TV to be a guest analyst a set up for tampering, but rules are rules I guess.

The rule is ******* stupid either way & should be dealt away with. with that said i'm happy that the league finally decided to call it evenly across the board.

What did Doc say exactly? Did this occur on that ESPN finals preview show with Stephen A., Magic and Wilbon? Doc had to know going in anything close to a compliment would be tampering. Didn't think he said anything out of pocket.

He was complimenting Kawhi and his skill set. Nothing wrong with that imo

But when you fine Magic $50K for complimenting Giannis then you should be consistent

Yes, that’s when the comments were made. He said Kawhi is the closest thing to MJ there is in the game currently. I think that’s what the league has a problem with.

These schools play games with kids all the time. No sympathy for them missing out on a kid who just announced that he was even reclassifying late in the game. It's not like they've been recruiting him for 2019 for this entire cycle.
College sports ain't **** for real. They hold 18-22 year olds to a tougher standard than old men.
