. Seriously though, why fire the head coach and pay a $21 million buyout when your ultimate goal was to just promote the DC? Did they strike out on their first couple of candidates?

He was probably always the guy. From the jump people were saying the booster who paid the buy out liked Steele. Cristobal hinted at his agent talking to Auburn so the delay has probably been better candidates like Cristobal and Freeze jockeying for the position and Auburn trustees fighting with the one guy who is willing to pay for everything and who would only do so for Steele. Hence the "Auburn doesnt have the money to pay the buyout AND Cristobal's fee" talk.

Not great for Florida given their season. FSU to be expected all things considered. Miami just has to keep chipping away. Stack 1 or 2 more classes like this and you have something.
