You wouldn’t want to announce it while you’re still playing because you still want people to buy your jerseys but right after you’re done, their is no point in having the old number anymore so it’s the right thing to do for consumers. If you wait longer and consumers buy 23 without knowing you don’t want them to say “****, I bought this 23 jersey after the playoffs and it’s already out of date. **** Nike and that bum.”
It was damn near a Nike decision and not a Bron decision
