So ND just went 3 & out, what sizable advantage are they at by deferring and getting a stop

Team still have to play their game and execute, but to say the deferring team doesn’t have an advantage by now having one more possession than their opponent is pretty naive.

Yesterday Texas started on defense, held ASU to 3, then scored a TD of their own. By halftime they were up 2 possessions, and started the 2nd half with the ball. It was the same situation for Penn St against Boise State.
