E39 M5 or 1st Gen CTS-V with around 80k miles and same price?? What's the consensus? I know next to nothing about the S62 M5 engine, whereas I'veworked on LS based engines before. If the cars had no logos at all and you didn't know what they are, which one would you take??

e39 hands down.

look out for the VANOS problems though, my e46 is going to the shop for just that tomorrow.

CTS-V

Loads of torque
Roomy
Decent handling
Well known, easy to work on engine
Easy and cheap to make fast, insurance is also cheaper

but.....
The 04 has serious wheel hop issues
The shifter suuuuuuucks balls
Plastic everywhere inside
I don't really like the way it looks all that much

E39 M5

Reputation for performance
Good looker
Livable interior
Handling

but.........
I've heard nothing but problems with the VANOS system
I don't know how to work on the engine
Insurance is a bit more expensive
Harder and more expensive to make fast

I'm seriously torn between the 2. People tell me to stay away from the M because of reliability issues, but that car is the sole reason the V even exists.I'm planning to test drive them in about a month or so.

There you go.

Added a new CAI. I was sick of the AirAid CAI. I bought a 3.5 Bwoody True Cold Air Intake.

It sounds better and most of all my IAT readings are 30-40 degrees cooler with this intake.

It like copping a phone thaat was spouse to be the iPhone Killer, in the end, it fails.

You know what to do, make Deutschland proud.

The CTS is far from roomy.

RIP to anyone over 5'5 in the backseat, ZERO leg room.

Im only 5'11 and it wasnt roomy for me at all.

That was my only complaint on the car.
