Matthew Barnaby, a former NHL tough guy and current hockey analyst for ESPN, pleaded not guilty to five charges on Saturday, a day after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in a suburb of Buffalo on Friday night.

The Buffalo News reports the Barnaby, 38, was released on his own recognizance. While police have released few details, the incident reportedly involves his estranged wife and another adult. Law enforcement officials told the newspaper that there were no injuries and Barnaby made no physical contact with the alleged victims.

Barnaby faces up to four years in prison on the single felony count of criminal mischief. He’s also charged with criminal contempt, criminal trespass, harassment and aggravated harassment. Amherst Town Justice Mark G. Farrell ordered Barnaby to steer clear of anyone involved in the case.

"We just learned of this so it would be inappropriate to comment," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said in an e-mail to CBSSports.com Friday night.

Amherst police responded to Barnaby’s home around 6:15 p.m. and The Buffalo News reports that he was taken into custody a short time later.

Barnaby, a native of Ottawa who also does TV work for TSN, played seven seasons in Buffalo before he continued his NHL career in Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, New York (Rangers), Colorado, Chicago and Dallas. He played in 834 games -- racking up 2,562 penalty minutes -- before he retired in 2007.

What a horrible showing by The Bruins today. Just these bad mental mistakes cost The Bruins. I'll give Dennis Seidenberg the benefit of the doubt here because he tried to do whatever he could to get the puck out only to kick right to Bergenheim. However, the Kaberle gaffe and the soft goal let up by Thomas is all their fault! The Kaberle one was a combined thing. Kaberle is just downright terrible and Thomas was staring off into space! Did anybody see him?! He was just chilling while Teddy Purcell was just charging in as though nothing was going to happen! Kaberle falls over and of course, Thomas is going to fall over soon after.

The Clark goal was pretty bad as well. He should've saved it, enough said. A backhander from Brett Clark. Think about that, a backhander from Brett Clark.

That's two goals that could've been prevented which would've been a whole different game.

Tampa showed up; Boston didn't.

the clark goal was all timmy, the others i cant really blame him. i know he was caught off guard on the kaberle goof, but that never should have happened.

why didnt seguin get any PP time? one of the only players that showed up.

seidenberg boot was crappy but hes been so good its hard to get on him. i just wish he kicked it away from the slot instead of INTO the slot..

the D did a good job on the big guns, it was the bergenheim-moore-downie line that killed them. if anything positive, seguin looked good and lucic/horton ended the game with a purpose taking those misconducts.

wow what a dud. kaberle's goof was HORRENDOUS. timmy was definitely not sharp. what's his deal with thinking he's got the puck frozen when its completely loose. he's done it a few times, and tonight the first goal was exactly that. and then the clark goal, jeezus.

claude had his head up his *$@ last night as well. like bjm said, no segs on the PP. and then the 4th line getting WAY too much PT when you're down 3 goals...shawn thornton's *$@ is useless in playoff hockey.

hopefully nothing from the league on lucic or horton, isn't there a rule about "message sending"?
