Does anyone here collect or own any Absolute Editions from DC? They seem pretty awesome, but pricey.

agreed after reading the rebirth issue red hood would be perfectly fine on his own unless he makes bizarro and artemis interesting enough for them to be worth reading aboutI mean, dondelgado isn't wrongLobdell's had 2 runs on Red Hood before this one and both have had sales steadily declining, with fans raging about how bad they were. Series under him has been having issues from the jump, constantly making bad creative decisions. The comparison between Lobdell and Snyder is a good one, because the 2 are like night and day in terms of how well received and critically acclaimed their respective runs were.
I agree though, the first issue of Red Hood Rebirth was good and has me being optimistic about the series for the first time in a good while. Just don't k ow that Bizarro and Artemis will work out.
Coates is doing his thing currently and is flourishing. They need to get Priest back on BP.

I'm digging it. Its clear Coates wants to get a lot done.
I actually like that he's made it so Wakanda is not this perfect flawless society and T'Challa isn't thos leader with the quick fix. He's mirroring actual African nations heavily in one way.
There's a spin-off book called World of Wakanda so I don't expect the pacing to remain at this rate going for much longer.
The Huddlin run. It had a purpose Doom later had the cure and turned in to a weapon.I hated when the last BP run casually dropped that Wakanda had the cure for cancer that run was so damn ham-fisted with how perfect Wakanda was

BP #5 today

I was down to support a new black writer on a black hero, but the series is so dull. It's mostly exposition, which is okay for a couple issues, but it's beginning to wear on me. I don't feel like Coates knows BP that well either. T'Challa is one of the most intelligent, aware, and battle ready dudes in the MU and he's getting tripped up by nobodies. Plus he seems like a dimwit when it comes to the king responsibilities.
The first arc didn't really have any pay-off. It kind of just fizzled. T'Challa himself is like a side character in an anthology, because the separate moving parts of the story that are clearly supposed to connect, barely do. And it feels like he's barely in his own comic. I like the art though.
I know Coates has no experience with comics. Maybe his next arc will get better. I'm really just buying it to support a black writer and black character, but I'll probably drop this series soon if it's more of the same.
let m be the artist on your run papiNah **** that. For years we been spoon fed this "Wakanda and T'Challa are the most perfect things ever" nonsense, I'm glad to see BP finally take some damn Ls.
It's like writers got so wrapped up on crafting some perfect idealized African nation but don't realize that due to the relative instability of the region the place is bound to come across its fair share of local troubles no matter how scientifically and culturally advanced they are.
Also Wakanda is a kingdom and T'Challa is a king right? Then let's finally get that sprawling fantasy African epic I been pining for for years as opposed to some basic superhero serialization. I don't care if BP isn't in these first 5 issues all that much. This will have a clear beginning and end, and by the end of it we will be glad to have known all these characters and stories. I fell in love with this run from issue 1
I would love to write a BP run myself
If it were a Wakanda comic or Ayo and Aneka comic, sure. I don't mind those aspects. T'Challa is T'Challa though. You can't be that adept of a warrior and have heightened senses to his capacity and constantly get made a fool of. It's like ignoring Peter's Spidey Sense. Spider-man could be halfway through his 10th wise crack and if they try to blindside him, he'll still react, even if he's not focused on it. BP shouldn't be tripped up in no weak ambush. Cap: Civil War portrayed T'Challa better than this current run did.
I'm not really enjoying reading it in general either. It's mostly heavy exposition and cryptic metaphors. At some point you gotta have a story do something to reward the reader's patience.
