OFFICIAL COMIC BOOK THREAD

I read about the first couple arcs and an annual for New 52 Detective. I didn't think it was that bad either. I also read the Future's End tie-in because of that dope holographic Riddler cover. Didn't read Future's End though. :lol

I haven't read Future's End either, but I haven't heard good things. However, the new Batman Beyond series that spun out of it, featuring Tim Drake as Batman Beyond, was straight trash. Most of DC's recent events don't seem to be that great.

Yeah. Kind of over the events. I just want to read self contained stories that don't tie into like 20 other books that effect the status quo.

Totally forgot about Iceman being gay until I read that article :lol its literally such a non-thing

...so yeah, how's that working out for him?

The question sounds stupid as ****.

Without pushing diversity (cuz that's how change is brought about) any of these artists would just be freed to keep using the same white guys as leads in their video games and comics but that leads in to the bigger problem of ppl of color not getting equal opportunity to use their artistic freedom in creating comics and video games.

Man this entire article is just such a poor argument. Comparing diversity being included to stripping away creativity from artists a.k.a. telling Steph Curry to score as much as he wants without shooting a 3. Guess what if including diversity in to your work is seen as a limitation you probably suck at being creative.

Just a bunch of whiny *****y complaining. Dude claims to be a minority and immigrant but his entire argument comes from the perspective of privilege and a lack of understanding as he jumps to conclusions about the message being sent about diversity being included in comics and games.

race/gender swappin known characters is corny.
What characters have been race/gender swapped in which comics or video games? 8o

Comments like this (from the link):
Just recently, the white billionaire Tony Stark turned into a 15 year old African American girl.
Just wreak of nonsensical utterly stupid bias. Just generalize a statement until it's false and not explain yourself :x :lol

We need diversity. The fictional characters should represent the diversity we have in North America.

I don't like the execution for the race/gender swap. Riri being the new Iron Man is a bandaid fix. Tony will be back and her being "Iron Man" is already undermined by Dr. Doom throwing on the Iron Man mantle at the same time. Best case scenario is Riri as Ironheart will last long term and be an Iron Man equivalent to Batgirl.

Just finished New 52's Savage Hawkman series. Had potential, but never lived up to it. I wouldn't suggest it, especially not to anyone who is a fan of Geoff Johns' Hawkman Series Pre-Flashpoint. Within the last few weeks i've gone through New 52 Detective Comics, The Dark Knight, Savage Hawkman, and Deathstroke. I'm enjoying catching up on series I didn't bother with previously or didn't have the time to check out. Think i'll go ahead and do Batman and Robin next.

EDIT: Reading the first issue and i'm reminded of how much of a disrespectful little *** Damian used to be. Your father takes you to the spot your grandparents were murdered to talk to you about the significance of that event and what he's going to do with it going forward, they were just dusty names on the wall who don't mean anything to you and you want your father to stop with this sentimental nonsense. Yikes.

So nobody's excited about Infamous Iron Man?

I'm still pushing for Oscar Issac as MCU Victor in order to cleanse our collective palates of Apocalypse

I'm definitely excited, the cover for #1 is faayyyaaahhh IMO. Especially since the current IM doom is like trying to besties tony. It's weird but I like it. Lol

I'm looking forward to Infamous IM. I just hope Bendis gives a much more focused run for Doom (and for Riri in the other book).

Doom hasn't really had a solo book like this.

Has anyone in here read Frostbite & the first 2 issues of Black Monday Murders? They seem real interesting

Does Doom have ANY other solo runs?

I never really was that interested in the character but I like how he was handled in Secret Wars and his little guest appearance in IM was cool too. So I don't mind going back to take a look. I read the Strange story where he and Doom battled Mephisto and liked that.

I'm looking forward to the challenges they present for a character with Dr. Strange level magic and Iron Man tech :smokin

All I can really think of is Books of Doom. Its a mini that was a modern retelling of Doom's origin.

Yeah, Doom has never really had his own solo series. The best you'll find is the above mentiond mini. Outside of that, his character really is one that has been expanded on over time due to so many appearances in other stories.

Off the top of my head i'd suggest Doomwar (Doom makes war against Wakanda), Emperor Doom (Doom conquers the planet), Doomquest (Doom and Iron Man are sent back in time to the era of King Arthur and Morgan le Fay), the original Secret Wars (Where Doom gained the power of the Beyonder towards the end), and Dr. Strange and Dr. Doom: Triumph and Torment (Probably my favorite, where Strange and Doom travel to Hell to rescue the soul of Doom's mother).

Doomquest also has 2 sequels in the form of the Recurring Knightmare storyline, in which Doom and Iron Man go to the future instead and once again meet Merlin and King Arthur, and Legacy of Doom, where Doom and Iron Man go to hell and fight over Excalibur. Last time I checked you can get the first sequel and the original story in one trade paperback volume that's simply titled Doomquest.

I suppose there's also Doom 2099, which would actually count as a solo series I suppose. Have yet to read it though, so I can't suggest it, but i've only ever heard good things about it.

Yeah Doom mostly has had one-shots, minis, a graphic novel he appears in, and arcs/events in other heroes' books.

There is Doom 2099 which is really good but that doesn't come to mind as a Doom solo cuz while it is 616 Doom it's set in the future near the end of the 21st century not dealing with the main Marvel heroes as we commonly know them.

There was also this kid Doom solo that never got published that would've been interesting.

I'm surprised that any type of series or miniseries for Dr. Doom is the one that would be cancelled, because he's insanely popular. And honestly we've never seen much of his college years so that could have been an important expansion for him.

Just finished Vol. 2 of Descender...SO GOOD.

Now, I need to buy the latest volume of Saga and start reading the IDW TMNT

I read Ghostbusters was good too.

I remember reading a preview of the first issue of Paper Girls a while back. It wasn't bad. Never heard of Eclipse.

I didn't order Cage! with my pulls. Went to the shop today and they were fresh out. I should of anticipated it after the Netflix series. I didn't think the guy who made Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack would appeal to that many people, but I guess that's part of the reason I wanted it too. |I

Got Death of X #1. Haven't read it yet. Preparing myself for the mutant mud dragging. :{
