OFFICIAL COMIC BOOK THREAD

The four central characters of my story :)

The white chick is the overall antagonist (she's really old as hell; she's kind of my personification of America's self-image--youthful but old, puports to be innocent and optimistic but is actually ruthless and not averse to great violence to achieve her ends, on the surface laid back but really driven, powerful and possessing a tendency to dominate others). She's the ruler of my fictional world.

I like her as a "villain" and I like her motivations. I think she's my favorite character surprisingly.

If I'm trying to communicate a "Kanye West" vibe for dude with the afro, imagine this character as his "Taylor Swift" :rollin the artist drew that comparison and had me weebay.gif

Put it this way, based on the quality of homie's art and how quickly he takes to the characters, he's undercharging

But it's beyond commissions tho--he's basically conceptualizing them too, he gets these inspirations when drawing, he'll suggest them to me, and I'll either yay or nay. He likes drawing nappy hair :lol which is why I'm keen on sticking with him

Plus his massive following on social media is great promotion.

There will be more detailed compositions coming shortly

That Monster Men come to Gotham crossover first issue in Batman was not good.

From the plot to the dialogue post-Drake's death :x

King while a co-plotter doesn't even write the script.

Yo I was confused about...I was like hold up, they're crossing stories here?

They did the same to the Nighwing comic..tied it into the monster men Smmfh.

Nightwing storyline for the Tebirth up to issue 4 was about the court of owl... wtf

That's the whole reason of me organizing. I thought I was buying duplicate copies because 3 different titles are crossing the same storyline.

Same for Superman and the Trinity new issue

Organizing comics smh

:x

You need to get some bags and boards the next time you go to your shop. A long box or a couple short boxes too.

My local shop bags and boards all the new releases. They're usually ready to go right off the rack. He'll bag and board customers pulls when he rings them up if it's a crazy week.

It happens sometimes. A few titles cross over for a couple issues for an arc that plays out across all of them. It's running for 2 issues of Batman, Nightwing, and Detective Comics. You can skip them and wait until it's done. Then the original writers will be back.

If you're not already getting all of them, then you're going to get a fractured story. I think Batman #7 is part 1 and Nightwing #5 is part 2.

The shop I go to is literally around the corner from job.  They're out here charging for everything. I'll see if I can buy them in Bulk.

The shop I love, which is 30 - 45 mins, opposite direction of my house, bag and board every release.

The cross issues threw me way off. I like now I brought 3 different comics and they're telling the same damn story.

Can't **** with single issue comics outside of the store man :{ Trades and Omnibus' or forget it.

But yeah, crossover issues are typically trash, because there's no proper lead-in. One minute you're reading about Batman working a case to find the Ridder, next thing you know he's in a completely different city saving people from an earthquake :{ Big downfall of event stories.

If we're talking about passing the mantle gotta exclude the GLs and Nova types. Same with Iron Fists and Moon Knights. If there's a built in history of the mantle to me it's not the same as carrying on a legacy.

I think it may be Flash. From Jay to Barry to Wally. I know guy in the vid just made a list of his favorites.

Going off origins, legacies I think are ripe for that kind of stuff is Spidey, Batman, etc.

Crossovers can be dope at times like Rise of the Midnight Sons or Sinestro Corps War. Sometimes Marvel or DC are just trying to crossover a low selling character with a high selling one. You'll get stuff like Ghost Rider teaming up with Spider-Man.

I collect trades and single issues both. I like collected editions for old runs that would be a pain to hunt down in back issues. What's the point when I can just buy it printed altogether without worrying about key issues, conditions, or price? It's a nice way to catch up on a series too. To get the original 6 issues of The Incredible Hulk would cost a fortune and the condition of the books probably won't even be that great. So it's clutch that you can just buy the Marvel Masterworks and get the slick hardcover. :hat

Well thank you for saving me money & time. I was in the comic store around my job yesterday & had it in my hands and put it down. It just aint feel right haha

I still gotta read all the previous Batman rebirth issues. Bought all of em up to this point but i never got any damn time i feel like lol

I need to get some more short boxes. I have about 5 piles of 2 months worth and thats almost 10 comics a week lol

Same way here. I had 4 months just stacking. That was just my DC pile and I had more on the other side of the room. :lol Luckily, I have storage space now, I can start stocking them.

I'm not going to lie, if they could produce the trade within a month after the story, I would get it But, it takes almost 6 months.

I have a few trades Ive copped like batman new 52 a few classics like hush and killing joke, ghostbuster, color classics tmnt, TWD compendiums, and some random marvel.

Trades definitely work better for older stories that you've never read, but someone suggests to you, such Batman The Long Halloween or Superman Birthright. They're especially good for comics that released in the 70s and 80s, in which case hunting down single issues just isn't practical. DC and Marvel have been doing a really good job of releasing new collected volumes from that era lately.

I only buy trades now. I used to follow way too many titles. But now I'm only following two or three and catch up with what's going on through comic book sites lol

Been catching up on New 52 Batman lately, not Scott Snyder's run on the main title, but the other titles that Batman was appearing in: Batman and Robin, Detective Comics, and The Dark Knight. I have to admit that I owe DC an apology and perhaps even Scott Snyder as well. I have been very critical of the focus that the Joker has received from them, taking up the spotlight in video games, films, and major storylines, while various other classic villains languished in limbo. While that's still true outside of the comics to some extent, inside the comics I was speaking from pure ignorance. The Dark Knight for example makes both Scarecrow and Mad Hatter major villains throughout, whereas in Detective Comics you get an ongoing conflict between Batman and the Penguin. So while Snyder definitely focused on the Joker a good deal within the Batman title, giving him 2 entire storylines to himself, when you take the other 2 series into account (And I haven't even read Batman and Robin yet, besides the first arc with Nobody, so who knows what villains show up there) there's actually a decent spread of villains that you get stories for.

That's why they had so many Bat spin-off titles with Batman.

Plenty of other stuff to focus on although I don't think it was all that good.

There's also Morrison finishing up Batman Inc when the New 52 started which lasted a few years.

I've avoided Batman Inc. like the plague because i'm generally not even a fan of the concept.

The Dark Knight series with Scarecrow and Mad Hatter was straight though, might even go so far as to buy the series (Right now i'm just reading it online, like I did with Spider-Man 2099. I've heard terrible reviews about the New 52 Detective Comic run, which is why it's taken me so long to get to it now, but it honestly isn't half bad. Around 30 issues in there's been a change in creative teams, which so far has shown a drop in quality, but beforehand? I thought they were doing good work with Penguin and some of the other villains. Not equivalent to Snyder's run mind you, but still good.
