OFFICIAL HOCKEY THREAD: NHL, KHL, NCAA, IIHL

i'm dying holding out on NHL '14...gotta wait for xbox one though

You would be an Xbox fan. Probably a huge Nas fan too. SMH. :lol

And no, NHL will not be next gen until 15. 14 is just for 360 and PS3.

:rollin

so a) i actually have both and prefer sports games on PS. but none of my friends do so sometimes i cave and buy on xbox :lol, and b) i used to play the **** out of Nas "Rule" back in highschool :{

no more, though. i'm like 97% rock and metal now :lol

The learning curve is just too much for me.

Also, I haven't heard back yet. Starting to get a bit antsy.

Are you on XBL now? Hit me up if so.

I'm behind the times on what you have going... What was your interview for?

Speak of the devil. Called me today to bring me back tomorrow to meet the team.

Fraij,

I'm not sure why they would scrap the throwbacks for these. Money I suppose.
Merchandise is always a money grab. The Flaming C logo and scripted Calgary don't flow well together. One or the other.

Great first period defensively for the Rangers.

*I would like to preface this post by telling you guys that I am a casual hockey fan.  I go to a maximum of 2 Sharks games a year, and could probably name one player per team (other than obvious cases).*

My question to you guys is, putting aside the fact that Lapierre was apparently claiming he was going to hurt someone at the very beginning of the game, what exactly made the hit on Dan Boyle so dirty?  I have seen tons of facebook statuses, tweets and what not saying how dirty of a hit it was.  But why?  I've seen the replay a few times.  To me it looked like the fact that Boyle was in a weird position was the only reason he got seriously injured.

So what made it so dirty?  I am not saying that it was or wasn't dirty.  As a casual observer of the sport, I cant tell the difference between a clean check and a dirty one.

Look forward to hearing the responses.

It was dirty because of

1. Who hit him

2. The result

I think Max will get a game or two, but I honestly don't believe there was any ill-attempt on his part to hurt Boyle. Boyle HAS to protect himself and shoulder some of the responsibility of not putting himself in an awkward position. These hits do happen in hockey due to guys turning at the last minute...really not a lot you can do in that situation due to the speed in which these guys are skating. All that being said, I do hope Boyle makes a quick recovery.

So to put it in terms that I personally am more familiar with, it would be as if Ndamukong Suh hit someone a quarterbackin a way that could be considered borderline against the rules, and that QB becoming seriously injured?  More of a reputation thing?

Your analogy isn't too far off. Lapierre is one of the most hated guys in the league. I don't think he's been suspended before, but he's got a really bad rep. A lot of the focus is on what Lapierre did...but lost in all of that is how Boyle didn't do the best job in protecting himself. He turned at the last minute with Lapierre skating in. It's going to be interesting to see how Shanahan calls this. Honestly, I thought Jason Chimera's hit on Justin Schultz the other night was way more egregious and was suspension-worthy.

Thanks for your response.  Makes sense to me.  I didn't view it as dirty, but then again, I don't know hockey like you guys do.  All I know is people out here are LIVID, and after simply viewing the replay, I couldn't understand why.

There was also the checking from behind aspect to it, but I'm not sure anybody is talking about that play being "dirty" if Boyle doesn't get carted off.

back from the game. Man I don't care what anyone says, watching hockey live is the best over all sports. :hat Flames lost which continue the amazing nearly decade losing streak at Ducks home. :x Anyway, they did fine, or Ducks PP was just trolling all night. Why start MacDonald though and not give Ramo a try :{ Also GAH DAMN Etem is quick. Just zipped through Calgary defenders like nothing :x my fav Duck right now. OOOH man love hockey :smokin

Gotta give props to Lundqvist (again)...dude is the best in the world. I would like to think that the Rangers are going to meet his contract demands....but if not...SMH

I think that a couple of the Sharks said that before the hit, Max was talking about putting one of them down. Maybe not to that extent but the intent from him was definitely there.

First and last sentence are FACTS

max lapierre is a piece of ****. back to his days with the canadiens (weird, i know), to the canucks, and now this. he's gutless. he'll be the first one to do something like that but then gladly turtle when it comes to time to answer for it.

i believe he does have a suspension history, so i can see 5-10 games for this one on boyle. boyle's reputation as one of the better guys in the league (both on and off the ice) won't help maxi pad's cause.
