OFFICIAL HOCKEY THREAD: NHL, KHL, NCAA, IIHL

few angry people in here

i'll be the first to admit we play a rough game of hockey, but to say theres NO skill involved is a lie. horton, krejci, bergeron, seguin are all very skilled. at the same time (minus seguin to this point), they arent afraid to throw hands when it comes time.

i totally agree that marchand deserved to be suspended. i dont think he intended to hurt salo, but theres no way he was just "avoiding" contact either.

5 games is harsh (the max shanny could have handed down), but that comes with being a repeat offender.

and although i think vinneaut's (sp? dont feel like looking it up
laugh.gif
) was kind of douchey, his main point about someone taking a run at marchand is true. he's gotta back up a little bit or hes gonna get taken out.

all of this. and marchand will be fine. teams are free to go after him, let's see if they do. they know exactly what'll happen if they do.

marchand's hit was IDENTICAL to the hit that mason raymond threw on marchand last year. the canucks and their fans are being hypocritical as hell. dirty? biting doesn't belong ANYWHERE in hockey. all this pansy %!$ %%%! they pull like what weise did doesn't belong ANYWHERE in hockey. six guys going in one opposing player? oh yeah, the canucks are angels out there on the ice. so a canucks fan calling the bruins dirty is a joke. no skill? yeah you're right, biggest goal differential in the league based off dirty goals. watch a bruins game for once. the reason we're doing well is we have a balance of skill and toughness. you act like we're winning games 1-0 and 2-1 everyone night off rebound goals and deflections. the "dirty" player that's the focus of all this has scored some very skilled goals, you should know first hand.

we may play a rough style of hockey, it's far from dirty relative to the stuff that goes on in the league. and it's definitely not this weaselly whiny crap that you guys play.

I didn't see the game, but I'm gonna guess if Hendricks got in a fight, he lost

*Edit*

Just went on hockeyfights.com and saw the fight got a 2.5

Also, I LOVE how the Bruins play.  They bully the +#%$ outta people and get results.

5 games for Marchand is a joke....he got the same deal as Rene Bourque who went out of his way to throw an elbow at the dome of one of the league's premier players (Backstrom).  I was hoping he didn't get suspended, because like I said, I didn't see much difference in the way he hit salo as Ballard did to McQuaid (I think that's who he hit).

There's a difference between physical, and dirty. The Bruins are the former (with some exceptions, i.e. Lucic-Miller). Unfortunately, in the current NHL that leads to occasional supplementary discipline.

I would also suggest that the contention that Boston lacks skill is, to use kash55's words, "idiotic." Such a claim also makes blatantly obvious that one has not followed the NHL since last year's Stanley Cup Final. Not only are the Bruins a physical team (they are fourth in PIM behind... the Canucks), but, as DSA noted, they also currently lead the league in Goals For (Vancouver ranks second) and Goal Differential-- and they do so rolling four lines. At present, four Bruins have >30 points, and another five with >20 points.

Ironically (and perhaps not surprisingly given the nationality of most of the team's players), the Bruins epitomize Canadian hockey. They are a fast, skilled, North-South hockey team that flourishes when engaging physically with opponents.

I am obviously biased, but I see nothing wrong with the way that they play.

Right? 5 games is a little much for that hit.
Buttttt Boston is a city of homers. It gets OD sometimes.

I swear, this Kings team is so bipolar when it comes to scoring.  If they can play like that every night, they would be scary.  Same 'ol story.
JMFJ doing the Tebow, that was unexpected

Let's just move on from it. Marchand is suspended for five games and The Canucks won the game.

It was just one game out of 82. Now, we have a game against The Jets.

Where's Big Buff?

Buff's been out since Christmas with an injury, there was a chance of him playing tonight but obviously that didn't happen

that call on thornton tho...whackness. between that and the penalty shot, the league is trying to send us a message

that definitely was not deserving of a penalty shot for thornton...glad he scored tho. pretty goal

They ever explain in Pitt why Blysma said Neal would be out a few weeks and he was out practicing this morning?

I realize it was probably a make up call, but that penalty shot was a horrible call

And as I was typing Eric Fehr gets his 1st of the year

good numbers for his career as a backup tho

edit - man i really hope these pens are healthy next year...its a shame

We played terrible in the 3rd but I'm not too upset. It was the last game on a 4 road trip and played entirely without Byfuglien and the last 2 periods without Bogosian, who has had a great year
