imma school ya on something right now...

white gold and silver francos look exactly da same for a while because unlike yellow gold or platinum....these 2 metals are coated with Rhodium to give it that bluish metal finish....what jewelers don't tell you is it wears off in a few months....

thats why i'll never respect white gold...
. I got Game's double Game chains that have been banged up from hitting each other and there isn't a mark of yellow anywhere on them. those were made almost 6 months or more ago. we haven't rhodium'd or dipped them at all. if anything we'll polish the hell outta it and buff out the scrathes. but it's still gonna be white gold underneath.

all natural gold we get is a brownish raw gold color.

so even yellow gold francos have to get a polish once in a while to maintain a nice luster.

platinum doesn't shine as hard as white gold homey, whoever told you or wherever you read that gave you the wrong info son. platinum is much closer to silver in it's natural look.

and the yellow gold franco chain was created before there was a silver/white gold or any other franco. what the hell is you talkin about? I'm direct with the company in italy who designed the franco link. again if some of y'all forgot, we move more franco chains then any other store in the west coast and i'd like to say in the country for real.

so you think all the white gold pieces we've made need to be rhodium'd again and again after a few months? are you serious?

sometimes bro, you drop knowledge that is so off, but you ain't a jeweler ninja, so I don't get why you spit that offbeat info.

we got pieces like our crosses and stuff that we've had for years that have not lost their color. after maybe a repair or we sauder something, it'll be a little yellow but that's from fire, same with yellow gold too when we put the fire to it to fix something.

what's been new in the past couple years is that they are using a certain rhodium to dip the silver chains in so they look white gold. they could do the same with yellow gold, it's just easier on silver so when it rubs off it just has a rusty silverish look to it.

but if you do your research on rhodium, it's more expensive then gold itself homey.

you missed me with that one homey.

silver will never ever have the same look even with the certain rhodium their using to put on those fake stud chains that everyone and their mother has now. but those have more of a chromeish look to them, where as a nice white gold chain after being polished has a different shine. not the same at all. rhodium doesn't really sticc to silver and the metal doesn't catch, so it has to be plated totally different.

if you had a yellow gold pendant, we could dip it and rhodium it completely so it was white gold, but then, it might wear off after 3 or more months..... but it was yellow to begin with. Cartoon has a yellow gold SA piece and it's dope, but once in a while, he'll get it fully dipped in white and rocc a white SA piece for a little while, then switch up every time he wants to just because.

for all those clowns who bought the source magazine starter kit fake cz chain jumpoffs, you obviously notice after a while, the fake white goldish look will wear down around the necc area and it'll be all rusty lookin, you can't polish that and re-dip it. it's like an earl schieb 1 day paint job. it just don't sticc to the metal that easy, it'd have to be dipped with many coats.

but like for instance a tiffany and co bracelet or necklace that is str8 silver without any extras can be polished real nice and still look good, but real far off from white gold.

chrome hearts uses 96% of a raw silver look, but they charge over platinum prices for silver, it's amazing and they get away with it all day.

White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, such as silver or palladium. Like yellow gold, white gold is measured in Karats.

Its properties vary depending on the metals and proportions used. As a result, white gold alloys can be used for different purposes; while a nickel alloy is hard, strong and therefore good for rings and pins, white gold-palladium alloys are soft, pliable and great for white gold gemstone settings. The highest quality white gold is usually at least 18 karat, and made up of gold and palladium, and sometimes even trace levels of platinum for weight and durability, although this often requires specialised goldsmiths.

Whilst some higher quality white gold alloys retain their shine and lustre, most will be coated with a very thin layer of rhodium. This will give the naturally more dull white gold, a shine comparable to platinum or silver. Often white gold will require cleaning, or re-coating of rhodium at a later date.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_gold Eighteen-carat white gold consists of 75% gold mixed with 25% white metals. New white gold rings are usually coated with a hard protective finish of rhodium, a silver-white metal like platinum. To keep a white gold ring looking its best, Gillett's recommends an annual replating of rhodium, since the coating wears off over time.ask.yahoo.com/ask/20000914.htmlteam platanocheck out da myspace

after while, I'm assuming they meant years.

I've had chains that are still fine, all white gold, still white, no signs of any yellow/rose or rust or whatever.

we do sell silver at my shop, but we don't advertise it....
but we will sell prolly sell them francos in silver. I'm all about making $50 on something and doin it 100 times a day.

Silver will never look like white gold it will always have a bronze tint to it (just like moissinite has ayellow tint) and plating it with Rh will only last 3 months of so and looks more like crome (alot of denist use it) along with denal alloy......Plat was always used because it was a duller version of white gold to get that "vintage" look in wedding rings and the weight because it heavyer then gold, the only reason rappers started wearing it was cause it was "more expensive" and they could brag, but in all honesty white gold has the most shine to it.....no if ands or buts about it

And yes some white gold is mixed with alloy and nickel.......(bet you didnt know there are some grimy companys out there) so they are the same feel weight wise but will turn a weird color after awhile...........I ran across so many chains like this back in the day at our shop.......it's worse now

They have been useing this new way to plate silver to look exactly like white gold that is gonna catch on soon (cats are cheap) but it's expensive and about 2x the price of whatever youd pay for silver

posting stuff.

Forget silver. Small silver francos have been around for years, the larger silver ones are newer and all over the damn place. You can buy them by the bundle down the road in Houston. Silver naturally oxidizes so why would anyone spend money on something that'll be useless down the road. Sure it can always be polished again and again but save some cash and stay with gold. I'll leave platinum to exactly what Ben said. I hate it.

Palladium is kinda cool though. Wonder if it really has any potential. I mean it's 95% white, a member of the platinum family, cheaper than gold, strong, and never needs to be rhodiumed. I've worked with it and I have even ordered some paladium earrings for customers. Looks good, but it's not gold, only an alternative. Plus we all know white gold is dying down.

bottom line your first post about this was false homey. but it's all good.

I'm goin thru this now because a client who is an NTER just bought a $40,000 bracelet that was originally a different color on certain parts.... so we dipped it in white to make it all white.... but it will fade eventually because it wasn't made with our original white gold in that to begin with, but if we did make it in all white, he'd be straight with just a machine buff and polish.

peace, i'mma post pics of this watch we did for the owner of Penguin clothing. CRAZY!
vintage gold penguin watch, but we added like 17 carats of canary diamonds on it.
