OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2024-2025 SEASON THREAD

problem is ty still isnt sure what his finishing line-up is, on one end its good you got some diversity but you also dont have consistency and chemistry to end games and thats why it becomes a struggle to score at times

they even tinkered with the starting line-up, keep reggie in there since he’s been good but it f’d up his confidence and dude just sucked, dont need patbev in there pestering and pissing off luka

don't understand why have 9 man rotation.
team game & bench brings momentum at times. we got a few W of them

No consistent lineups and no consistent game plan. Kawhi should be touching the ball in the post in crunch...and everything PG does should be with intentions of getting to the line. (In crunch)

I mean it seems perfectly obvious from my Monday morning armchair. When it comes to the mavs, you have to cut the head off the snake.

You have to defend Luka and limit either his scoring or playmaking ability.

To defend him in such a manner where he ends up with a 30 point triple double is basically not doing your job defensively as a team against him.

Zubac was bad in matchups vs doncic (expected)
Why is he placed in these situations schematically so often? Why isn't George/kawhi the primary defender on luka? Because Dallas will force a switch? So what? I'd rather have the mavs bog down their offense trying to force a switch for 16 seconds then give then exactly what they want offensively.

Here's an excerpt from a Ramona shelbourne article on ESPN.com...

"The Clippers opted to throw a variety of defensive looks at Doncic, instead of having Leonard, a former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, on him. According to ESPN Stats & Info data, Doncic didn't take one shot with Leonard as his primary defender. Instead, the Clippers had Leonard on Kristaps Porzingis, expecting the Mavs would force them to switch if Leonard started on Doncic.

That left the much smaller albeit gritty defender Patrick Beverley to start on Doncic, who promptly attacked Beverley in pick-and-rolls to draw out Clippers center Ivica Zubac.

Doncic feasted on that matchup, scoring 15 of his points on 6-of-9 shooting with Zubac as his defender. According to Second Spectrum, Dallas averaged 1.43 points per direct pick when Doncic was the ball handler and Zubac was the screen defender (22 plays). They averaged just 0.88 points per direct pick (35 plays) against all other Clippers defenders."

"The game is so different; they're going to pick who they want anyway,"

I assume coach lue said this last statement in response to not placing George or Leonard on doncic.

I mean, what are they here for? If you're not going to use 2 of the best perimeter wing defenders in the game against one of the best talents in the NBA today...I mean cot damb!?

Pnr made you go away from your biggest strength?
Double Luka, hard hedge him, play ibaka at center and switch everything.

But start the possession with George/kawhi on Luka, fight like hell on those pnr plays and let the mavs waste 18 seconds or of the shot clock trying to figure out how to force a switch.

Now, the Clippers have what amounts to the closest thing to a must win game, in game 2 of the playoffs! Smh

If it was up to me, the ball would be out of luka's hands and some other mav would have to beat us. He'd be lucky to get 10 shots.

As always, imho.

While how we defended (or didn’t defend) Luka is getting most of the attention and rightfully so, we were still in a position to win the game in the 4th quarter and just couldn’t score enough to close out the game.

Morris and Reggie were a combined 0-9 from 3, PG had a horrific shooting start, then Kawhi got cold in the second half. A few missed FTs late.

So I guess my point is that we have room to improve on both sides of the ball. And they need to just flat out play harder.

while zubac was a terrible match up on switches, i felt like luka had about three 3pt bombs a few feet behind and its one of those things you just got live with if he’s heaving like curry/dame

definitely dont make sense to not consistently have pg and kawhi on him though, they did play small ball late and thats when luka got stifled so hopefully they start like that in game 2

patbev is just too small and just inbued luka confidence in the beginning, id rather mann be out there defending him

Agreed. Morris and Jackson stunk it up. Players will have bad games shooting the ball. Those guys have to get aggressive and get to the line if they aren't shooting well.

As much as Jackson has earned a spot in the rotation with his great play during the season, lue can't be afraid to bench him. I really believe that Mann needs his rotational minutes. Beverly can have spot duty at point and rondo needs the lion's share of the minutes at point...which would only be about 20-24 min or so.

Totally agree. Luka is only a low 30s % 3pt shooter. So, you have to live with the 26+ foot bombs.

The defensive game plan should definitely be the Clippers going out with the best vs. the best though. Kawhi and pg have to take the responsibility of guarding doncic and fighting thru screens etc to make life hard for doncic.

A defensive game plan that results in a triple double for doncic isn't a game plan at all.

It tells me that doncic did whatever he wanted (for 3 quarters) and was in complete control.

i wouldnt even be mad at entertaining the possibility of just going one on one with Luka and let him score 50 and defend everyone else as long as dude doesnt have much assist

like what portland did with Jokic, dude had 34/16 but 1 assist and lost even with porters 25/9

clips also has to start hitting 3s, i wasnt a believer that they would sustain the 41% shooting in the reg season but they maintained it so now they got to live up to it in the playoffs, shooting 11/40 isnt going to cut it but had they made 5 more then they easily win the game

do or die tonight but i do feel like they'll bounce back, they tend to have good games after a loss

i also found this write-up and pretty much the clippers just has to make 3s that they were making all season long, it doesn't even seem like good defense are being played by dallas, just bad shooting and decisions, hardaway and finney-smith also shot 9-15 from behind the arc and probably arent the most reliable and kleber might be out today

plus luka went 0-5 in the 4th so its not even really him that killed the clips

In game one, Dallas shot 50/47/77 for the game. Los Angeles managed just 44/27/75. By those numbers, you might expect the game to be a bit of a blowout. Dallas did eventually win by double digits, but it was a much closer game than that, with many lead changes along the way. So how did LA manage to nearly pull off the W on a bad shooting night? They found ways to add possessions. The Clippers took eight more shots than Dallas did.

At the start of this series, it was noted that Dallas and Los Angeles were two of the slowest teams in the league (26th and 28th respectively in pace). In a game with fewer possessions, each shot means more.

Over the course of the season, Dallas averaged 11 turnovers per game. They more or less matched that on Saturday with 12. The Clippers are a similarly stingy team who only gave up 12 turnovers per game. However, Dallas only managed to pry the ball away from LA five times all game, and they managed zero fast break points off of the few they got. Basing the entire defensive game plan around the Clippers shooting themselves out of the game doesn’t seem all that sustainable, so it’d be nice to see the Dallas defense get a little more disruptive to even out the shot disparity and earn some easy points on the break to lessen their reliance on shooting lights out from three.

I’m also confident we’ll shout better, but I still think we just flat out need to play harder, with more intensity.

I heard Don McLean on the radio yesterday and he said the Clippers started Game 1 weirdly flat, like it wasn’t playoff game. Maybe it was because of the one week lay-off, but still, can’t have that.

oh for sure, looks like Kawhi got pissed in the 1st too when PG started bricking shots and kind of took over in the 1st half and was extra aggressive and i dont want to say he burnt out in the 4th but he definitely struggled

i think mann is th eone that gives that burst of energy off the bench so he has to get in there instead of PatBev

and is Ibaka is healthy, play him because his 3pt threat frees up kawhi and pg to keep driving

I might have to miss the game :{

Is there a game on Sunday? Because I’ll most likely miss that one too :{
