Official N.Y. Yankees 2011 SEASON THREAD y-(97-65) Vol. We'll be in the Off-season thread =/

AJ Burnett the next in the line of Kevin Brown's and Carl Pavano's.......

Since it is too late to let him go this year... We should try and trade him for whatever we could get in the offseason...

I am bored so I decided to look at 2012... I understand we have over 2 months of the season left but don't underestimate my boredness..

2012 Rotation should be
1- C.C.
2- (Trade for someone since the Free Agent pool is very weak)
3- Phil
4- Nova
5- (Sign someone because as good as Colon has been it'd be stupid to try and catch lightning in a bottle 2 years in a row)

You could move up Phil and Nova to #2 & #3 (and I think we could be fine) looking for a 4 & 5 instead of #2 & 5 because it is so much easier. But I'm not sure Phil is ready for a #2 spot IMO even though when he is on he has #2 stuff.

And because I'm bored I looked into the rest of the offseason (besides the obvious trading AJ)

1- Pick up Robbie's option and extend the contract long term (like 8 year Jeter style long term)
2- Do whatever C.C. wants to keep him on the team through his regularly scheduled contract.
3- Show Posada the door
4- Finally bring up one of our catching prospects permanently to back up Russell next year to take over in 2013 or 2014 i.e. Posada under Girardi in the 90s
5- Pick up the option on Swish (and negotiate an option for the next year)
6- Resign Andruw Jones (2 year/ $10-14 mil, club & player option 3rd year) AND give him full time DH role
7- Bring back Marcus Thames in his pinch hitter role (2 year/ $4 mil)
8- Keep the bullpen as is (and keep Soriano from opting out)

Long Shot Idea
9- We take a run at David Ortiz (great club house guy and can still pound the ball and at Yankee Stadium could do some damage Power Wise).. And if we get him still sign Andruw but at the same capacity he is this year... I say this because the Sox should have never went after Mo and it would be great payback and sweet if we did get him for a year or 2. And even though he is a Red Sox I still like the guy.

Next year we have a GREAT core for a team... Our only issues if we brough back everyone (Besides Posada because under no circumstance should we bring him back) would be #2 starter, #5 starter, a consistent backup for SS & 3B (Nunez isn't that guy), backup catcher, and back up outfielder..  All things (besides the #2 starter) that are not extremely difficult to find..

Now back to 2011 we are up 1/2 game. And our schedule isn't that bad besides the 6 against Boston... We got a really good chance this year....

Burnett is a rapidly declining pitcher with decent stuff, awful command, and worse makeup. In the past, his stuff made up for his lack of command, but no longer. He also has 2 years/32 million left on his deal, so no GM in their right mind is trading for him.

CC will opt out, that's just common sense on his part. Yanks will have to re-sign him for at least 25 mil per season (which is what Cliff is making).

They'll look to trade the farm for a front end starter.

And Andruw Jones full time DH? Really?

AJ -  Crazier things have happened..  There has to be one GM out there who will take them (if we put up some of the money for him).. And I really don't care who we get for him
C.C.-  He probably would but that is why I said do w/e he wants to keep him through his regularly scheduled contract, so we don't have to worry someone snatches him up off of free agency. So get him to not opt out and restructure the contract.

Front End Starter- One would think that is what would happen

Andurw - Yes... Not anything funny about it... In 133 at bats he has 9 homeruns 26 RBI's. Yes he is hitting .248 but has never been the contact hitter. His OBP is better than it was when he hit 51 HR's. And his slugging is in line with his career average.  His 14.7 AB/HR is better than every DH including David Ortiz (the HR leader for DH's) by a full 2 at bats....  Had we played Andruw the entire season instead of wasting our time on Jorge he would be on pace for 30+ Homruns 85+ RBI's...  For a DH who would be hitting anywhere between 6-8 in the order is great.. And even if he is having an "off" season he would fully be capable of hitting 20+ Homeruns 70+ RBI's.  Once again because we have so much bat support from Robbie, Tex, Grandy, normally A-Rod if we got 20+ HR's 70+ RBI's from Andruw which is great at the bottom of the order it is a good move...

- The Yankees I assume will pursue CJ Wilson in the offseason.
- A trade will more than likely happen for an arm of somekind, maybe back end.

- Look for Banuelos to be called up in a long relief role and then possibly in the rotation by mid season

- There is no chance in hell the Yankees go after David Ortiz, and there is less of a chance that Ortiz entertains the idea of being a Yankee. Not going to happen.

As far as your offseason moves.

- Give Robbie Cano a 10 year 200 mil contract and be done with it. The man is the next Yankee great, lock him down now.

- Posada is gone. I'm not buying his nonsense where he says he wants to play next year, just retire.

- I want Swish back, I think Swish wants to be back, but I don't know if the Yanks will give him the $ he will command.

- You're giving Andruw Jones way too much money, and if you bring in Thames (again) they are essentially the same.

- I want to get younger, not keep older guys

- Your rotation is fine, but I don't see AJ going anywhere...he sucks right now but we owe him a truck load of cash, no one will take that on unless we eat most of the salary...he's our problem

- AJ Burnett is really turning into Pavano, sure he was great in 09 but he has been garbage since that postseason.

There's no way they resign Jones bruh, no way in hell. And do you even know that WE HAVE MARCUS THAMES? He got released by the Dodgers, we signed him at the end of July.

How can you mention 2012 without bringing up Montero, Banuelos and/or Betances?
laugh.gif
Unless we make a trade, these kids are gonna get every chance to fail in 2012, we've been waiting 2 years for them.

As far as getting a #2, I think it's not as desperate as some make it out to be. From what I've read, most scouts and front office people have been saying Nova is a 2, or 3 at worse, add Hughes to that mix who's a 3-4, or a 2 if he regains last years form and there's no need to OD for a #2. IMO the only way these kids don't get a chance is if Cash $ ends up taking the Cubs job or King Felix becomes available. Don't forget he refused to add Nova and Nunez to the Cliff Lee deal, though he felt he would sign in the off season but still. And there was alot of published reports that at the deadline Cash was telling teams he had 6-7 untouchables out of the players people were asking for, including the players here on the big squad, so go figure...

Not trying to hate but just as Yankees fan ( are you a Yankees fan?) how can you honestly think we need to resign Jones, have Thames on the team, and try to sign Papi?

He's making a strong push, that's for sure.  Plus, getting a little added bump with Hellickson and Pineda getting their starts more spaced out.  I still think it goes to Ackley though.

Only way they're trading the farm is if Felix becomes available.  I don't think Cashman has held on to them this long to trade them for anything less.  Besides, he might not even be here.  I think he might listen to Chicago because it has the same thing that has made him seem like a more successful GM than he's been here, a boss willing to spend a lot of money.  Also, a lot of money coming off their books.

Thoughts on Adam Warren possibly being that #5? Isn't he next in line for a spot start?

Isn't it crazy that by 2013 4/5th of our rotation could possibly be homegrown talent? Hughes-Nova-Baneulos-Betances
