LOL WTF Is Artest talking about

How much am I supposed to blame a bipolar SG and a guy I know doesn't impact a game outside of scoring?

I at least want the coach to TRY to put us in a position to win. Woodson is failing terribly.

J's: To be fair, JR has seemingly cut back the partying and consequently improved his work ethic this season. It has shown on the court.

Mike Woodson isn't a very good coach. He can't make adjustments to save his life, he shows an insane loyalty to some players (Kidd, JR) and buries other players. The Knicks were successful because they rained 3's this year and their defense was average.

Unless you have one of the elite guys, there's a lot of fluctuation with the rest of the coaches. It's hard to say what coach would have done a better job with this team, but Woodson is the same guy from Atlanta... so any improvement was exaggerated.

As always.

Comes thru with the Real :smokin

Point being, JR will never be a saint. I think you live with this improved version of him.

Gift and the curse.

The Knicks before JR elbowed JET would've stood a better chance against Miami than these Pacers.

Honest question, but why do people feel like the elbow was the turning point for the Knicks/JR Smith in the playoffs? He's a streaky player...not exactly the model of consistency. This is the same dude who was out watching the Mayweather fight at 40/40 the night/morning before a 3:30 tip. It's obvious he can't handle playing ball in the city.

Because it was the turning point :rolleyes

Since that suspension he has struggled. He hasn't had a stretch this bad ALL season. You know he was the 6th man of the year, right?

Stop it.

You're mistaking not being Mike D'Antoni with being a strong defensive coach.
I just don't understand how you guys can so obsessively find reasons to blame everyone except for J.R. and Melo.  It's like you have a pathological obsession with low-efficiency chuckers.

Also, per Woodson, I mean.  He's better than many coaches in the league.  That's the standard I would use for calling him "good" or "bad".  Obviously he should have played Copeland and Novak,.. no idea what he was thinking.

I mean, look what the Nets were working with, with PJ

Look, Melo definitely deserves blame. And people have been giving J.R. hell in the official thread. But we can't blame literally every single failure this team managed to accomplish on one man. That's just irrational now. Melo ain't the reason Tyson has been a shell of his former self or the reason Kidd has completely plummeted in playing form. He's also not the reason why we continue to double team when Indy's shooters have been killing us consistently.

He's definitely not innocent though....his play left much to be desired during several key games in the last series and this series. I don't think anyone can deny that.

it was the turning point for his ego.. a dude that chucks that much doesn't give any dams.. but the league put him in check

They were a below-average defensive team all year. Finished at 18th in the league.
Maybe I'm wrong, hell, I'm not going to go crazy trying to defend Mike Woodson.

I respected the job he did in Atlanta based on that team's talent- he got them to about where they belonged, consistently.  Maybe he's not an A-level coach but he created winning identities for both the Knicks and Hawks.

What did you really expect from NY, based on their team?  Are they really better than those Hawks were?

I'm not going to keep beating the same drum, but...  Who am I kidding, yes I will.  Carmelo has the worst playoff record of ANY player to play 50 games!  This team ain't making the finals no matter who the coach is.

Hey, I agree.  Tyson's been terrible, Woodson made no sense by not putting in Prigioni, Novak, and Copeland, obviously J.R. has been useless, whole team getting killed on the boards.  None of that is Melo's fault.

Just so it's clear I'm not insane about it.

So it's the elbow (suspension) and not Indiana's superior perimeter defense coupled with JR's difficult shot selection?

Thanks for the condescending reply.

He was pretty bad in February.

You know he's a streaky player, so blaming it on his suspension, IMO, is a bit silly. There is PLENTY of blame to go around. There are a lot of players who miss games in the playoffs due to injury or suspension, and come back to play well. You're ignoring the fact that he's a high-volume chucker who can easily go through a stretch of maddening play, to only flip things around and look brilliant.

*edit*

JR is part of the problem..but he's not THE sole problem. He's being made into a scapegoat for the Knicks potential collapse.

If you like Iso-centric offense, with a touch of stagnant pick and rolls, Mike Woodson is your guy.
+ like Big J mentioned, the undying loyalty to certain guys no matter what.

It's kind of funny though...the element of their offense that actually worked this season was derived from his predecessor's playbook.

When it comes to coaching personalities and having the vets' respect...Woodson is a good fit for the team. On the X's and O's side of things, he sucks.
The Pacers should wear black to the next game.
Wouldn't 'eem be mad.

I definitely pointed out the irony that the "defensive minded" coach had the 18th rated defense (which was about MDA's average while in Phoenix) and the third best offense while breaking a record for most 3's :lol

If I had a dollar for every time Knicks fans complained about D'Antoni's "too many three's" I could afford to go to a Knicks game.
