Well, I dont' think they are. I think they would have been even better with him. They did have a very similar record with him on the roster. You cannot tell me that Prince as a complementary player is better than Rudy as the same guy. Memphis was just FORCED to play a different way because Rudy wasn't there to bail them out on plays. They could have easily adjusted to the same style WITH Rudy on the team like they were doing before Rudy went down in 2010-11 (his best season btw).

The fact that they lost last season was just very unfortunate for him and he wasn't even the one to blame. I know a good amount about what happened within that organization when Rudy was on the team, so more of Rudy's jumpshot attempts had to do with the coach. It also had to do with a lot of guys relying on him to make plays. Just a psychological thing. Now, guys like Conley believe in themselves more to do it themselves and they could have done that with Rudy. It was like someone relying on their older brother to bail them out all the time.

But I don't care, no one believed in this team with or without Rudy for the most part. What's even more funny is how people think OKC would have just ran through Memphis with Westbrook on the team when they forgot Memphis has beat them with Westbrook with and without Rudy. I said it a million times, but Memphis is just a bad matchup for them and now you know why. An elite defensive team with elite bigs vs their overrated bigs is not a good receipe for them. I've always said we would get another shot at them and beat them, unfortunately it was without Westbrook so of course people will try to downplay it but whatever.

That's fine. Marc will just eat, then what?

Here me out: if you look at how teams defend the grizzlies, there is absolutely no fear that Mike Conley will beat them either by driving in for a layup or making a shot from the outside. It would be so much easier if Gay were a 3 point shooter, but when 90% of your plays are post up plays and you have Gasol and Randolph down low, with every team's defender sagging off Conley to clutter the paint, ask yourself were can Rudy begin to get good looks.

I don't see hollins trying to get Rudy more involved either. Half the time Rudy stands out on the perimeter and acts like I facilitator to get the ball down to our bigs. How does this relate to Mike Conley? Well for one thing, I believe that Conley, as well as Hollins, relies far too much on our bigs to get a good shot. It is almost a lazy way to play basketball and it is certainly a far less attacking style that the grizzlies need to be playing with.

I believe that Conley should be LIMITED to the amount of dump downs he can do in a game, because he is more than capable to drive the lane. So in a sense he is settling for the easy play. I also think that Rudy has accepted this type of game, but none of the way the team plays offense HELPS Rudy Gay in any way. There is no motion to give Rudy any rhythm. Hollins needs to MAKE it an imperative in every game to get Rudy going and not stick to this boring style of offense.

My point is that while you guys are looking for 3 point shooters to help space the floor, that you need to realize that the issue of spacing is a MIke Conley issue. Unless he challenges the defense on a regular basis, nothing is going to change

This was before the trade. The issue was Conley being more aggressive and to stop relying on having 3 good players to do things. Rudy was just the scapegoat because he was the "overpaid star". But, most of the time with Memphis, people only watched the national TV games or looked at the stats and wanted to say Rudy was a bad fit. Its way more to it than that.

bhz, management thought otherwise, they have been trying to trade Rudy for parts of 2 seasons before they actually did it, so they saw something there. I don't think they were forced into this style, management thought about it-apparently for a while. They took a gamble and won. Who trades their leadng scorer like that? That's not very common, it just happened to work out in this case.

The basketball gods need to play a trick on us and have give us a team with Nate, Brandon Jennings, JR Smith, Michael Beasley, and DeMarcus Cousins.

I would actually pay to watch that team. It'd be a circus.

had a similar convo about this with bunch of NTers last year on twitter. the 'All-Time Yolo Team'
Javale was in there too, but i dont think hes ever got suspended or anything

He's the best PF of all time.. I don't think he will have a problem lol.

Marc can't carry them thru a 7 game series

Marc carried Memphis through the OKC series, outside of Game 5. He scored 20+ points in every game when ZBo was getting locked up for the most part outside of 2 games. And Duncan is going to guard Marc anyways. He always has and I don't see that changing. If they do decide to switch, Marc will just feast. Not to mention Conley who still isn't getting enough credit.

They were not trying to trade Rudy last season. The old front office loved Rudy. The Rudy speculation began around the draft time only because Memphis lost in the 1st round, but Memphis wasn't seriously considering it. That's why you kept hearing reports about them keeping the core together for at least one more run. The Rudy stuff officially started when Hollinger was hired. OJ was the one being tossed around the last two seasons he was here.

And I guess its just opinion, but I believe they were forced into this style. You would not see the Conley you see today if he still had Rudy to rely on. Marc is already too unselfish as is, so he wanted to make sure Zach and Rudy ate before he did. Now, he just has to worry about Zach. The only thing those guys (Conley and Marc) had to do was be aggressive from the jump with Rudy on the team.

BHZ, when can we expect a "Tell Me How My *** Tasted" thread from you directed at Chester and Co.?

:lol

I know if we would've lost 4-1, Chester, mike and all them ******* would be laughing it up making fun of my predictions. But, I'm not going to do them like that. They've been ghost for the most part in this thread, but was all in this ***** when we were down 0-2 to the Clippers.

But, if we go to the Finals or win the championship, I'm letting it ride!

Found this:

Miami with Lebron vs. Memphis 2013 (2 G, 77.8 MP):
100.0 ORtg
113.9 DRtg
-13.9 Net

and this:

It seems that Memphis is not getting their due credit because of how surprisingly hard they have found it to beat the Thunder because they lost their second best player. I'm not denying how critical Westbrook is to the Thunders' success but let's also not dismiss all of his short comings. He had a tendency to throw the Thunder out of rhythm because of his bone headed decisions.

Of course they are a better team with him but subtracting him out of the roster doesn't mean you're taking away his impact and everything else has stayed the same. Everyone has adjusted to his absence. Which may sound funny relative to how badly Martin and Ibaka has played so far but it Durant has been playing at an unbelievable level since Westbrook has gone out. He's dominating both as an on the ball and off the ball player.

And also the Grizzlies aren't one of those teams to go on huge scoring bursts. They're a steady grind out team that wears you out so point disparity isn't a reflection of how good they really are.

If there's any doubt casted on the Grizzlies' ability to take on the Heat it shouldn't be squared out on this series.

Thinking about it, the Pacers could give the Heat serious problems. They're everything that the Heat struggle against and they actually beat the Heat in their regular season series 2-1 with both of those wins being by double digits. But now that I really think about it...there is absolutely no way that the league/Stern let the Pacers win that series. They aren't going to let a Pacers vs Grizz/Spurs series happen. The Pacers will be the new version of the early 2000's Kings.

The wildcard is D.Wade's health. I know that the Heat are hoping that the Knicks/Pacers series goes at least 6 games so Wade can get more time to rest.

Spurs still have to finish off Golden State tonight and I know the crowd will be loud in the Oracle Arena.

I actually see the Warriors winning tonight, but losing the series in 7. I think the Pacers will win as well.

And, I will not be surprised if both conference finals go to 7 games.
