Arrest made in murder of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright

Lorenzen Wright was a star player at the University of Memphis, picked No. 7 in the 1996 NBA draft ahead of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Jermaine O’Neal, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Clippers, Hawks, and Grizzlies, among others. But sometime after midnight on July 19, 2010, he was shot dead in Memphis, and his murder remained unsolved.

Now, Memphis police announced an arrest in Wright’s murder. BillyTurner, 46, of Memphis was arrested on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder.

The arrest followed the October discovery of what police believe was the murder weapon from a Mississippi lake. That discovery led police to publicize once again the $21,000 reward for information on Wright’s murder.

Wright suffered personal and financial difficulties after his playing career ended in 2009. He had been living in Atlanta, but in July 2010 visited Memphis. At about 10:30 in the evening of July 18, his ex-wife said he left her home in Collierville, a Memphis suburb, with drugs and an unspecified amount of cash. He got into a car with an unidentified individual and was never seen again.

Wright called for help on his cell phone shortly after midnight on July 19, and as many as 11 gunshots can be heard on the tape. Wright had at least five gunshot wounds to his body, two to the head, two to the chest, and one to the right forearm. But his body was so badly decomposed by the time it was found that it was impossible to determine whether more shots had hit him.

Police received 22 tips on Wright’s murder, and none contained substantive information. By December 2010, they indicated that the trail had gone cold.

Can someone define prime to me? With what y'all are saying, one could argue MJ or LeBron was in their prime their rookie seasons.

I feel the peak of Dwade's defense >
The peak of Kobe's offensive game >

But obviously career wise, one has many more accolades sooooo.................

Playing in your prime means playing at your best level/top of your game.

so how is it technically possible that a prime last 15 years? maybe i'm looking at this too black and white but when i think of prime, i'm thinking of a player's best season or best two seasons.

Honestly, Wade was a better shot blocker and help defender.
Kobe is a better one on one defender, which was critical during his 3peat.

MJ was at his prime during the 91-93 seasons, in terms of skill.
He was at his athletic prime during the mid to late 80s.
The late 90s he was more crafty and relied on his IQ.

if we are going by what you believe prime means, then I absolutely agree with you.

It's basically when they started putting up what their career averages are in some aspects and how long they were able to maintain that before falling off. That's why'd I say Bron's prime started in 05, his 1st 27-7-7 season.

Unfortunately with BballRef you can't pick a random season to start in order to get cumulative numbers when comparing players (unless you can and I' not aware). This is as close as I could get for the 3 players that I'm assuming everyone wants to talk about...

MJ's prime was really his entire Bulls career. He just evolved.

MJ prime: 85-98: 31.5 ppg/6.3 rpg/5.4 apg on 51/33/84
Kobe prime: 00-13: 27.8 ppg/5.7 rpg/5.2 apg on 46/34/84
Bron prime: 05-current: 27.6 ppg/7.4 rpg/7.2 apg on 51/35/74
Wade prime: 05-12: 26.2 ppg/5.2 rpg/6.4 apg on 49/29/77

Makes sense to me. So then, Kobe's prime would be 13 years, not 15 years, which is 2000-2001 to 2012-2013. Impressive nonetheless.
