The NBA is at their weird point where the drama and conversion outside the game (burner accounts, free agency rumors, social media beefs) overshadow the actual games.

following NBA twitter/NBA reddit >>>>>>>>>> this predictable Finals series.

any news is good news for the nba. there's been a lot of bad series/gms this playoffs, but the drama the nba created has kept people tuned in

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I honestly think that if Lebron goes to the Western Conference, the NBA will eliminate the traditional conference matchups in the playoffs and go to the top 16 teams.

Everyone knows that the NBA already has an outline on how to execute and it could be implemented quickly.

Realistically, if all of the biggest stars (and the ultimate star in Lebron) and 8 out of the top 10 teams are out west, why stay with the current alignment?

The issue is getting eastern conference owners to buy off on it. If we went to a top 16 format only 4 of 5 Eastern conference teams would make the playoffs (asuming Lebron goes West) but with the additional ad revenue due to higher ratings it would offset the loss from fewer playoff home games.

It will look funny style if they do it immediately after he leaves, like they were trying to facilitate him getting there in the weak east.

Honestly, its whats best for the league, its whats best for competitive balance and they should've done this years ago. Lebron making the Finals interesting is the only reason I can think of why they haven't done it yet. But if Lebron is on the Rockets of Lakers, why not re-align in the playoffs? We'd have 3 legit playoff teams in the East (Boston, Toronto and Philly) and a bunch of scrubs. Those early rounds of the eastern conference playoffs are already crappy and taking out Lebron only makes it worse.

Thibbs literally made Deng seem old af

Deng was 32 during the season. I legit didn't' eem know that, figured he was approaching 35

Saddest thing I've read all year:

He travels with the team, but doesn’t sit on the sidelines with his teammates. Instead, he plays make believe in a training room by himself, as detailed by this gut wrenching account by Bill Paschke of the Los Angeles Times.

Deng watches the game on television and imitates its flow. When there’s action, he runs on a treadmill. When there’s a timeout, he stops. When the whistle blows, he runs again. When the Lakers are playing defense, he slides his feet as if playing imaginary defense.

In honoring an All-Star career that once featured 11 consecutive seasons of 30-plus minutes a game, he stays active in his make-believe game for about 35 minutes, at which point the real game is usually ending.

Honestly, it must be tough. Getting 81 DNP-Coach's Decisions after being a mutliple time all-star, everyone calling you trash, saying you're the worst contract in the NBA, literal dead weight on the organization, etc. Deng is a professional and a prideful dude but that has to ruin your confidence.

That being said, he's not accepting a low buyout number (which he shouldn't) so I'm not totally sold on the "I want to play at all costs" angle.

Yea he wants to play but get paid that 36 million as well. They'll get rid of him this summer via stretch and waive or hopefully his total salary with a couple 1st rd picks if they get the max free agents.

**** the lackers for disrespecting mans like that

Do I wish he weren't on our books? of course but I can't blame him for it. Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak (good luck with that Hornets fans) were dumb enough to offer him and Mozgov big money, I can't blame them for taking it and wanting the Lakers to honor the contract.

There are fans out there that slander Deng like they would give up $36m over the next two years.

Agreed. I do feel strongly though that even after that many DNPs, he would have been a much better option than Joe Johnson.
