OFFICIAL NBA 2K17 Thread | Available Now

I lab last night it seems you need to know where the pg goes to run a play?

Yes. You also need to snap the ball to start a play in football.

Thanks a lot, 2k for not explaining to everyone you have to stand in a certain place (determined by the play) to run actual plays. Everyone needs this information so nobody ever has to go through what meangene went through. (Learning?)

Not picking on gene, hes new to 2k, but, this is how 99% of yall's complaints sound lmao

One dude said he needed a more in depth tututorial as to what defensive theories mean lmaooooo totally 2ks fault he doesnt know what defensive basketball terms mean.

Yall sound like republicans who attribute everything to being obama's fault

You cant turn the ball over without it being 2ks fault.

You cant catch an L without someone having to cheat you

Etc etc etc

Keep it going

We're going to need a RapGenius in this thread pretty soon.

No offense but If we can get these replies is under 4 sentences or less that would work.

I am having fun learning to play this game it's pretty deep. I was calling plays with my point guard not realizing I had to move to a certain spot on the court to start the play.

You can also turn playvision on to see the play mapped out on the floor.

I never call plays outside of pick and rolls. I think I need to start though. When I start playing 2k17 again, that's on my to do list.

Yea I would advise everyone to start running particular offensive plays. It really helps spreading the floor

Unless I get into a nice groove in transition early I'm always running plays. Been trying to use the position specific quick plays as well

I have been telling yall this from the JUMP
Reddit user upvotd has come up with a pretty brilliant workaround for folks who want to play a season or more with a single player but don't want to go through the grind of the MyCAREER mode.

His solution is to play in MyLEAGUE with a created player with player lock on. Of course, that means you have to manually create a player and place them on a roster -- and then you simply player lock onto your created player. When that happens viola! You have a MyPlayer you can play with and upgrade but without the added cut scenes, gym time, practices, and more of MyCAREER.

How his solution works is to use a spreadsheet system to upgrade your player based on their performance in a way that makes sense (and a way you can work to earn credits in a measureable way).

The system upvotd created allows for player upgrades based on on-court performance. There's even a spreadsheet to make things easier.

You can check out the full YourPlayer system on Reddit right now! Give it a try and let us know what you think!

You said you put everything on tight when setting your defensive settings?

Every player, you set to tight defense?
correct

on-ball pressure tight

off-ball pressure tight

on ball screen (Center) - go over

hedge (center) - Catch Hedge

Something you think i should switch up? open to suggestions

On/Off Ball Pressure

Low: Non Shooter (Tony Allen)
Moderate: Decent Shooter (Wade)
Tight: Knockdown Shooter (Tim Hardaway Jr)
Smother: Knockdown Shooter that isn't a great ball handler (Kyle Korver)

vs. Screens

Ice: Non Threat (Tony Allen)
Under: Non Shooter (Greek Freak)
Over: Shooter (JJ Redick)

Be careful with putting everything on tight

I posted the hedge options and when they should be used on an earlier page

Also doing this, you are SEVERELY messing up your help defense options.

The whole point of not playing tight on non-shooters is to have them in position to be able to help when one of their teammates gets beat off of the dribble.

I am NOT attacking you when I say this.........

But stuff like this is done, and then the idea that "Help Defense is broken" gets thrown around. But the whole picture is never told (ie: How settings are being used).

appreciate it always can learn new things and improve.

23-4 im sure with that knowledge i could of lost 2 matches instead of 4 last season.

ill switch some things up and report back. Currently in a MTO match

My D has been solid so far. But help D from the computer if I get beat never happens, they stay with the man they are covering.

When defending Non Scoring PGs, I also Ice them in the PnR to take away passing angles

Think Rubio, Sergio Rodriguez

Some defensive strategy notes

Breakdown from OG's stream

Defensive Team Packages
Junk: Show 2-3 or 3-2 Zone initially (dependent on team), and switch to man after the first pass.
Shrink The Floor: Off-Ball will gap, Go Under and Hard Hedge on screens
Straight Up: Moderate On-Ball and Off-Ball across the board, Help will still come
Stay Home: No Help
Focus on Stars: High pressure on stars and doubling
Switch Everything: Switch all screens

Defensive "Focus On" Packages
Boxes and Elbows: A man to man concept (can look like a zone when ran) where the player it is selected for will have his man guarding him and the other 4 defenders on the two elbows and just outside the paint on either side of the rim. You are giving up shots to get the ball out of the selected player's hands.
Give it Up: Smothering on Ball, Go Over on screens, Double on Ball Screens, Double on drive, No Double on catch

The Defensive Settings (in the Gameplan menu) will override everything else!

Tag on Roll
Used for heavy rim runners (Deandre, young Dwight). He explained that this is used on wing pick and rolls in combination with Icing the pick and roll. The tag man (weak side wing defender in his example) comes from the weak side onto the nail to impede the path of the roller. You are giving up a skip pass from the tag man's original assignment to stop the roll man.

Catch Hedge
This option is based off of the NBA concept called "Weak Up Top". The hedge man is responsible for preventing a straight line drive from the ball handler, while also being responsible for not letting the roll man get behind him. Help defense will not come when this is selected.

Suggests staying away from hard hedge if at all possible. It was made more extreme this year.

Help Settings
The Screen Help setting pertains to pick and rolls, while the Help Rules setting pertains to drives.

"Help and No Rotation" means the help the helper concept is not there.
"Auto" can be thought of as "Help and Rotation". Help the helper concept is there.
"No Help" means no help will come on the roll man.

Pre-rotate is confirmed to do what we have in the OP right now (bring an extra defender over when there is an iso on the wing). No news on if we can select the help man with the settings in any way.

This is what an nt thread should look like.

NT used to be about the love, helping each other out with anything

Now its about....iunno

Dc hit the nail on the head. You got everyone playing their man tight but blame 2k when nobody helps.

Try switching to the defender when the offensive guy is pulling up and use the right stick. 90% of the time you get a hand up nd affect the shot.

85% of the time in myplayer, especially with the lockdown, it results in airballs.

This is the first 2k where i didnt have to automatically press pause before tip off to change every setting i could

If you know what the cpu lacks defensively you can switch and try to compensate. Much moreso than in previous 2ks. They have that "guarded shot" animation which really makes a difference.

I absolutely hate playing dudes who run high pick and roll the entire game every possession down. Not that its super effective, its just very very very basic basketball.

I love throwing half court trap on them then switching to a big down low when/if they get the inital pass into the paint

Another tip, but offensively, i had been throwing flashy passes cause theyre faster. With the lockdown, he would turn it over a lot. Remembered they have double tap x quick pass now. Almost like fifas one touch passing. You can hit it before the guy even gets it and hell dish it off the touch. Really helps when the floor is spread and youre trying to swing it around
