Official NBA OFF-SEASON Thread - 2011: Free Agency Dec. 9th

Doubt the veracity of the rumor, but I'd probably make that deal if I was Kupchak, provided I could get rid of Artest as well. Makes the team more athletic and younger, takes some of the playmaking and ball-handling responsibilities away from Kobe, and gives you an all-world defender. On the other hand, the Lakers become a much more traditional team (less matchup problems for an opposing team), they lose some of that trademark size, and it doesn't solve one of their other biggest needs: shooting. Still has three years/44 mil left on his deal too, so I don't know how they would pay Kobe, Gasol, and Iguodala in three years.

The San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers nearly completed a blockbuster trade on Wednesday afternoon, but the deal fell apart in the late stages. San Antonio was prepared to ship Tony Parker and the #29 pick to Portland in exchange for Andre Miller, Nicolas Batum and the #21 pick, but the trade died when the Spurs insisted that Richard Jefferson somehow be included in the deal. Other players would have been included in the trade to make salaries work. Talks have quieted for now, but they could pick back up tomorrow if one of the teams has a change of heart.

Good for him, as much as he wore out his welcome in toronto and his bizarre substitution patterns, he can coach offense quite well actually.
