Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

Haven't posted a pic of my youngest in a minute but he's a year and 2 months and my other is almost 4.

Crazy my 4 year old looks like me and my 1 year old favors his mama lol

Any of y'all kids left handed?
I am and it's weird. Both my boys started using their left for everything as babies and slowly transitioned over to their right being their dominant hand... except my 3 year old still throws with his left. Everything else has been converted over to his right lol

I have my first due around 11/20. Shes going to bring me so much joy for sure. My only concern now is how society is set up to chew away at her soul. I want to instill truth and awareness from the start so that she is better prepared for the challenges shell soon begin to face. The idea of not having time to sk8 is also pretty crappy :lol Any "theorists" here got any advice for a player?

That feeling, when you've been sleep training your 6 month old for 2.5 weeks, and now is sleeping 7pm to 6am without waking up :hat

It's a great feeling! Ours has been sleeping through the night since he was a month old. Both of our boys were/are great sleepers at night. Couldn't ask for much more at that phase.

My daughter (my first-born) turned 6 today.

I would say most importantly is just being there from jump.
Every day, be consistent.

Across the board.

Interspersed with spending time helping her get acclimated to the world, show her what its like to be a man, if you are still with her mom, make sure you show her how to take care of a lady, so she demands the same when she gets older.

Preach that she is not only beautiful, but smart too. Make sure she's knows her value, as time progresses (and it goes fassssst) build off that foundation.

You'll be her entire world for awhile, and goes without saying you'll be her primary protector from the real one, and at some point... she will realize that.

The first couple years, she is going to need you and her ma dukes for everything, so skating (or whatever else) might come at a minimum, but you will slowly get that back as she grows. And like I said, it goes quick.

Cherish all of it. Even the sleepless nights, one day you will look back and give anything to go back to when they were a baby.

Be easy on yourself, as long as you do whats in your heart, you'll be straight, playa.

I'm sure she will have you wrapped around her finger in no time. :Nthat

Congrats brotha!!

@maldonado I appreciate the encouraging words. I truly gained a burst of excitement just imagining my baby girl with all youve said. And I know as well as my lady/her mother that she is going to have us by the finger. Just seeing how spoiled the dog has become weve come to the conclusion that we have to do better as parents to be:lol. Were definitely anctious and as ready as were gonna be. Taking birthing classes now at the womens hospital here in preparation for our water birth. I feel for my lady in what shes about to have to endure while in labor but Im here to man up for my woman and the little lady on the way in every way forever!

That's great to hear brotha!

Honestly, sounds like you are doing everything you should be thus far, and from what you are telling me I have zero doubt that you won't knock it out the park as a father/parents with your lady!!

Keep us updated

Honestly, I think we've just been lucky. Although we've made an effort to cluster feed before bedtime.

With our first, he HATED sleeping on his back. So we put a bouncer in the pack-n-play and he started sleeping great. After about a month or two (or three), we started putting a rolled up towel under the mattress to give it a little elevation. We think he might have had reflux and that was the reason he was waking up in the middle of the night. We just started doing the same for our second since it seemed to work so well for our first.

For naps, we had a friend give us their old swing to rock our second one in. Our first one HATED it, but he was taking 2 2 hour naps anyways on most days so it didn't matter. But our second refused to go to sleep for long periods of time if he wasn't rocking so I stuck him in there. Most days he still only takes 2 39-40 minute naps (yes, he's that consistent) then his final nap is 2 1/2-3 1/2 hrs.

We just kept the same routine for the kids. Every night we did the same thing at the same time. Wind down starting at 6, shower at 615 (every 1-2 days), bottle/cup of milk at 630ish, read a few books, and then bed time. We did that for both kids and it worked out really well for us. Even now, my 2.5 yr old son gets moody if he stays up past 7. He loves his routine.

With my son, around the 5/6 month mark, we slowly weened him off the middle of the night feeding, the pacifier, and rocking him to sleep. Took about 3 days for him to get used to going down awake and putting himself to sleep.

With my daughter, we went cold turkey and one night just took away the night feeding, pacifier, and went straight into sleep training. She struggled until she figured out how to roll over and sleep on her stomach. Ever since, it's been uninterrupted sleep from 7pm to at least 530am.

Damn I'm envious! If my kids fall asleep at 7pm they will be up fully awake at like 2am talking bout, "dada can you put a movie on for me?" lol

Wife is 32 weeks now...I'm getting mad excited :lol

I can only imagine. My wife is 16 weeks and we just found out we're having a boy. I'm beyond excited right now. I'd obviously be happy as long as the baby's healthy.....but I was def hoping for a little guy.
