OFFICIAL NYk '22 offseason thread, RJ extended

Sims has potential to be an elite defender. Guarded 2-5 in college. Has excellent coordination out there.

Has absolute zero offense, unfortunately . Elite genetics.

Obi is averaging 15/7/3 as a starter this season, shooting 55.7% FG, 35.7% 3PT and 84% FT.

Solid numbers. He makes quick passes and takes chances driving to the rim. Definitely an uptempo player though, half court ball doesn't suit his strengths.

These Knicks will be elite soon enough. Stayed the course for the final push for Paulo. Always wanna beat the Nets but KD is that dude.

I wonder if Portland would do our 2022 pick + S/T Mitch (since we won't resign him anyway) + Randle for their 2022 pick and Nurkic.

They have that massive trade exception and dont look like they're ready to blow it up.

If Mitch is to be lost, it needs to be part of a bigger package for that top 3 pick.

supposedly the knicks jumped the gun and extended tom thibodeau's contract a full five years last summer. if that's the case i don't see progress happening at the rate it should.
he is THE main problem

no one and i mean no one is giving up a top 3 pick for Mitch unless RJ is going with him.

i'm starting to see how Sims can be a decent replacement for Mitch. if we could actually develop players, Sims might have a higher ceiling. he's stronger, more athletic, seems to be more durable, and is able to stay on the court. he just needs to look to score more in the paint, especially on OREBs.

its obvious i'm a big RJ fan, but he needs to work on his shot selection and become more efficient. Knicks also need to hire a FT shooting coach bc the whole team sucks.

That’s all RJ needs to focus on this summer. FTs and making better reads. This 4 on 1 fast break **** needs to stop.

thats why i said we need another slasher. he's our only driving threat, hence the FT attempts. he just need to learn when to pull back instead of forcing the driving. if he got a better whistle, his FG% would go up also.

It’s time to worry about RJ & his free throws in a couple of seasons.

Cam is the other wing to compliment Barrett. The problem isn’t needing more of those types but rather just giving them the rock.

Another one off the bench won’t hurt none tho.

Mitch might walk… they also might keep him. We don’t know but he has been getting fed the ball more. Moving Noel for nothing to have Mitch/Sims is just as viable a plan and sort of makes sense since they didn’t trade him. Plus Noel been out all season, even if they keep him the Knicks might need to find another center next year.

They need to bring Frank back. Don’t know if he wants it.. also don’t know if the fans damage to Randle is repairable. Haven’t seen the timetable on Rubios return but if he’s available I would start with him.

Other than that they’re still a complete team that needs a pass first pg that can focus on defense. If Westbrook and John Wall’s contracts weren’t so horrid.. they would fit the bill.

Imagine swinging a Randle for Zion and then bringing in Wall

That’s why I said part of a bigger package. Randle w/ Mitch, IQ throw-in & this year’s 1st pick for that top 3 is an offer worth taking a look at dependent on the situation.

Wouldn’t like to just hand over too many guys that this org developed so they can go ball out for somewhere else.

Sims is going to need another couple years at least. He’s going to have to be vocal out there to call out plays and rotations. Then there’s the zero offense thing.

Perfectish summer

McBride, RJ, Cam, Banchero, Mitch
Rose, Grimes, Burks, Obi, Sims
Joku, Taj & Melo

AObi & Paulo can coexist by running some small ball 5 with him (Banchero) backing up Sims should Mitch be dealt. He’s already better offensively so his minutes as a rook should be closer than the Randle/Toppin splits.

Its up to Leon now to go full youth revival.
