Official Oakland Athletics 2012 Season Thread (94-68) AL WEST CHAMPIONS

I can't lie, this is the most excited I've been with this team just because of how shocking all this has been. I really thought we would lose close to a 100 games.
I loved how Parker was like "we've done a lot this year but we know we're not done." I really hope this is everyone else's mentality. It's great to get back to the playoffs but this is just a start.
Remind you of the 49ers ?
the season with lowest expectations leads to a post season

Feelsgoodman. Now lets take the division!

Love this team...so proud

Every freaking player on the team has had a real hand in this journey, except Daric Barton of course

Going tomorrow night, free parking Tuesday fa ****zle

So I'm watching the SVP Show on ESPN, and SVP was talking about how the O's are a more impressive story this year. They're arguing that the A's have better talent, and that we're just ahead of schedule in terms of producing. The O's are doing with no name talent, against the Yankees and Rays. I'm sitting there thinking we're doing it against the Rangers and Angels... :rolleyes.

I pretty much check ESPN everyday, and I click on the MLB tab. The typical cover story of the MLB section is one of how the O's are soooo impressive. A's are always a back story. I'm not knocking what the O's are doing, but cmon! A's get no respect. Show the team some love! :{

Damn ESPN East Coast Bias.

The A's have had decent teams in this decade and made the playoffs.

The O's haven't been relevant in 15/16 years! That's a long *** time and the way they have won this year. 16 straight extra inning games and some ungodly record in 1 run ball games with a closer who is on beast mode.

I hope Baltimore knocks Oakland out in the WC too.

I don't understand how Baltimore's awful play the past 15 years relates to this year, at all. Who gives a **** how ***** the O's were before? That fact doesn't make their team this year better than the A's team. And to be honest, I hope this 'team of destiny' stuff really gets in the O's heads and they collapse in the Wild Card game. East coast bias is ruining the simple pleasure of watching the game for me.

You sound really bitter/salty and I'm not sure why. You act as if the Orioles have been covered heavily all year or something. The Washington Post doesn't even cover the Orioles that much and the Nationals have been dominating the headlines.

And the previous 15/16 years has everything to do with this. You just sound mad that another surprise team is stealing the thunder from Oakland. Both teams were projected to be terrible and both teams are still playing meaninful ball in October.

:lol bro you didn't even explain why those craptastic years matter. Don't fling **** and expect it to stick just because you say so.

And yeah I'm upset about the disrespect, my team has had a great year (same with the O's obviously) and to be honest it's YOU who seems upset about having your thunder stolen by another up and coming team, talking about hoping that Baltimore knocks Oakland out. Don't come into OUR thread and talk about knocking US out and then turn around and say that I'm bitter because I fired back at you. No one in here is thinking about the O's like that, so stay in your lane.

You are just full of contradictions. You were directly talking about the Orioles in the initial post I responded to.

And the length of time a team has been irrelevant or dormant is directly correlated to the significance in their suprised improvement.

If the Red Sox come back strong next year and win the title would that be a bigger surprise/story than the Chicago Cubs winning the WS next year? Didn't think so. Oakland is a surprise and a good team, but not as surprising as Baltimore.....which is directly related to their amount of time being a cellar dwelling dormant crappy franchise.

And if me stating I hope the Orioles knock Oakland out in the WC offended you that much.....I don't even know what to say, there bigger issues at hand. It's a game. These threads don't have walls or clearances to post inside, but if you only want to hear opinions that directly stroke your ego or reaffirm everything you believe in. Proceed.

Good luck against Texas tonight.

Giants can chiming in.

The A's story is more improbable. Baltimore showed flashes of their capability last year so their surge for the playoffs is only mildly shocking. However they don't have the ability to say they got basically their entire pitching rotation this year like Oakland. They don't have to deal with 8k attendance or less every night. They don't have to worry about a new stadium being built. Most of all, they don't have an owner who wants his own team to LOSE so he has leverage to MOVE the team.

That's why Oakland is more fascinating. They are exactly like the Cleveland Indians from Major League.

Neither team was suppose to be here. Both teams are shocking everyone and both are impressive. The O's showed flashes last year but everyone was waiting for them to falter this year, and they didn't. The A's added promising starters in the offseason but no one expected them to perform the way they have.

Only thing I find funny is when people say that the A's have more "talent" than the O's. (I've heard this from a few people) :lol I just don't understand how anyone can say that. No one expected any of this from our starters. The offense? Melvin has mix-matched all season at almost all positions to make something work. :lol Who the hell expected Moss to play like this? Carter to finally show up? Donaldson to wake up and look somewhat like a major leaguer? Reddick to hit 30+ HRs? Cespedes to hit near .300? How about the "horrible" Coco signing? The A's "best" position player coming into the year is on the bench and was sent back to AAA this year. They still haven't gotten any offensive production from the catcher position.

All I'm saying is neither team was suppose to be here. O's fans will say there run is more impressive. A's fans will say there run is more impressive. The only thing we really know is how shocking and surprising BOTH teams have been. They've both gone against the odds. Let's leave the rest of the discussion for AFTER the postseason.

Anyways, on to more important stuff. The O's are up right now so it looks like we will have to get a W again tonight to at least hold onto that #1 WC spot. I don't have any trust in Blackley but hopefully he can surprise me. This is another huge game and we can't seattle after clinching a playoff spot yesterday. We need to keep pushing for either the #1 WC spot or the division. Going into Baltimore on Friday would be very tough, because we know how loud that place will be. Hopefully the offense can catch some fire today. Let's get it!

I'm hoping Blackley is on a very short leash. If he's giving up a run in the first two or three innings, don't hesitate to pull him. I want the division real bad.

I'm sure he will be, but I really hope he can give us 5. I don't want to deplete the bullpen now.

Whenever I doubt someone on this team they seem to prove me wrong. :lol What an outing by Blackley. Well done. :hat

Hope Cook and Balfour feel strong because they will need it tonight.

This dude Balfour just ain't right in the head. Perfect look for a closer. :lol

Damn, I'm pissed tomorrow is a day game since I will be at work. :{

1 game. WInner takes the division. Crazy.

The magical ride continues, way to step up with the big hit Norris, great innings Blackley!

AJ let's do it tomorrow

^^
Wow thx for the heads up about the day game. Looks like Im not going to work tmrw. Lets get the division title tmrw!

though i follow the giants more, i'm really impressed by the A's down this stretch. good luck tomorrow!

I want the division. But man I don't want to start the 1st round on the road, especially if we got to go to Detroit and face Verlander. This ALDS format is dumb *** ****. :{
