“Pompeo” is Italian right?

He also attends Italian cultural events right?

Also this is prolly one of the most borderline racism tweet I’ve even seen, depending on my “definition of racism.”
Boy do I hate these Italians and Irish that gladly accept the racist white role given their history. I mean I hate all racists, but for people who were called "****** wops" to be acting like this now is disgusting.

57 year old white man thar has been married multiple times:

apparently, the only -ism America was built on is "republicanism", per the 1776 commission

"The American founders understood that, for republicanism to function and endure, a republican people must share a large measure of commonality in manners, customs, language, and dedication to the common good."

Yea it's a special brand of shameful when it comes from people who's grandparents were still discriminated against and treated like **** by the country less than a century ago  :smh:

Immigrants from Italy, Poland, Greece, Slavic countries etc weren't even considered 'white' back in Europe and they weren't even considered equal in America until after WW2 so it's always ironic seeing the descendants of immigrants acting new and buying into WS wholeheartedly generations after.

 Makes so much sense given history, didn't even know that "oh he's just a ****** without papers". Sounds like they hated them even more.
When you read the history of this country, and I mean really read and then understand it?! What's happening right now is JUST. More should happen, much more. I am looking for it to be televised....sorry Gil Scott.

**** Eastern Europeans are still hated in most of Western Europe, especially England. Brexit is driven partially because of this hate towards Poles.

People underestimate how much racism is in Europe between white Europeans. I guess it’s not racism but you guys know what I mean.

That’s not what wop comes from. My dad always said that so I looked it up a few years ago and it evolved from “guappo”. Either way I agree with the sentiment in here.

Wrong.

Sounds like an attempt at reinvention, ala NEGRO.

When immigration restrictions were first established in the late nineteenth century to keep out Chinese laborers, convicts, people with diseases and prostitutes, the system of passports and visas that we now take for granted did not exist. Immigration inspectors determined immigrants’ eligibility at ports of entry as inspectors screened passengers for admissibility, including doing medical and psychological exams. Long lines at Ellis Island illustrated the screening process at ports of entry.

Yea we decry nationalism in a whole lot of areas but the nationalism in Europe has always been next level in terms of destructiveness.

Dudes fought countless wars across the contintent for over a millenia in the name of nationalism.

This whole ethnonationalist white solidarity thing is a very new concept and has only been around for maybe a century and there's legit never once been true solidarity amongst 'whites' in Europe irl

It only came together in the US as a direct response to historically subjugated communities demanding a more just society and rights as a means to keep the status quo through majority rule.

It’s an all over problem honestly.

I’ve seen Ecuadorians throw hands with Mexicans in the kitchen at work before because they were non stop with clowning each other until it boiled over.

Yup. Same thing with the Irish people in South Boston. They looked up to Whit*y Bulger as a literal god while he was actively destroying their community via drugs and violence, but clashed with black folks in Roxbury because they went to the same school.

Yea tribalism and sectarianism exists everywhere unfortunately which is why it's especially hypocritical seeing certain folks adopting the same mindset responsible for the mistreatment and inequity their ancestors suffered years later >D

Yeah scholars can't always tell nuance when it comes to slang or derogatory terms especially if they didn't live it. My guess is it was both.
This sentence is what sets it off, as if they weren't considered illegal...

One false etymology or backronym of wop is that it is an acronym for "without passport" or "without papers", implying that Italian immigrants entered the U.S. as undocumented or illegal immigrants.[9][10][11] The term has nothing to do with immigration documents, as these were not required by U.S. immigration officers until 1924,[12] after the slur had already come into use in the United States.[10]

That line suggests a whole lot of things speaking to legality and authenticity. To be considered an illegal immigrant, placed them at risk to be deported back to the country that they did not want to be in.

There was no implying, this was a fact.
