***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Let’s suppose, for the sake of argument, that Senators are truly just delegates for their State’s median voter and they have no obligation to care how their vote affects the other 49 States.

Ok, so Joe Manchin is in a State that Trump won. Fine, he can vote against Biden’s agenda. Throw in Sherrod Brown and Jon Tester. They can vote no on reconciliation since they are from States that Trump won.

At the same time though, Kyrsten Sinema should vote yes since Biden won AZ. Moreover, the three GOP Senators from States that Biden won should respect the unique, local culture of their States which voted for Biden; Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey, and Susan Collins are being more loyal to their Party and ignoring the will of their blue States of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Maine, respectively.

But of course, Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey, and Susan Collins won’t vote for Biden’s agenda because the idea of the Senate as 50 States sending pairs of ambassadors to the federal government is a legal fiction. The Senate is a national body where two political parties fight a zero sum ideological game. The whole GOP understands this.

Even if Manchin and Sinema aren’t thrilled about every part of the reconciliation bill, they need to consider their own political party and the long-term fate of the Senate’s legitimacy (and by extension, the legitimacy of the whole constitutional order). They could mortally wound both if they leave the majority of the electorate’s will completely thwarted.

Joey has done some things that have really pissed me off, but when he does **** like this, I can happily say...

Millions of people lives could be made better, and these scumbag centrist tanking the plan for no good reason

Best case scenario we get a half measure, then the defenders of these scumbag centrist will all act like liberals and progressives be thankful they got anything at all.

Do you think watered-down legislation is better than no legislation at all?

I remember we had this discussion in regards to the First Step Act and Fair Chance Act, but I don’t recall where you landed on watered-down legislation.

Personally, I think the proposed watered-down number is much better than no legislation.

Why do you support pedos?

So basically they had some budget cuts so they’re not gonna do their job? Ok that’s totally gonna make me throw my money at them.
This is one example but I have read many others

Basically, the LAPD budget got a slight increase, but the union is mad because they think activist pressure blocked a bigger increase. So many officers are upset by this.

So their budget increased and the police are still upset

It is reported the LAPD got its budget cut, but really what happened is the overtime cops are working is getting banked

So it is not being paid out now, it is being paid out later. So what can be reported as a cut now is mainly and accounting trick
