***Official Political Discussion Thread***

I think it goes both ways though, the radicalized left seemed to embrace antisemitism with the guise of defending Gaza, for example (obviously this wasn’t true for all Gaza supporters, just the radicalized ones).

I think the problem lies when people don’t think people with ideological leanings on their side can be radicalized.
Exactly, and unfortunately Hasan Piker's community has basically devolved into rampant anti-semitism.
A while ago, Hasan livestreamed an "interview" with a Houthi terrorist who admits to hijacking ships and taking hostages. He laughed about the terrorist describing a hijacking as "chilling with the captain" and proceeded to hit him with a hard hitting question "do you watch anime? do you like One Piece?"
The terrorist answered that he did know the anime One Piece, and Hasan ended the interview by praising him and comparing him to the series' protagonist Luffy.
No substantive question was asked. It's fine to interview anyone as long as you actually ask something of substance instead of just being a propaganda mouthpiece. Otherwise it's no different than just letting Trump run his mouth without asking substantive questions and pushing back.

Later when people tried to confront Hasan with social media posts of the terrorist hijacking a ship, posting about killing the jews with a drawing of a jew impaled on a spike, ... guess what Hasan did. He deflected all of it, didn't watch any of the actual critiques and only responded to strawman distortions his Twitch chat told him.
He even downplayed the 'kill the jews' post by claiming that picture of an impaled man wasn't necessarily a jew so it wasn't a big deal. He of course ignored the context that the guy's entire social media was filled with blatant anti-semitism.

Likewise, his community played defense as well. Dissent = instant ban so there's really no pushback from his chat. The pushback from other creators is always distorted and deflected as well. He never watches/reads the criticism so the chat never sees the source material. All they get is immediate deflection or a strawman argument based on how someone in chat describes the criticism.

That's by far the most popular political influencer/streamer on the left, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a turnoff for many people.

As bad as things may get under the Orange man, one thing that is obvious is that this thread is far from the echo chamber that the trolls drop by and claim it is. Obviously a massive copout for them being able to engage in good faith discussions, but hilarious still given all the disagreement in here.
Once Da Don gets rolling again in 25 aepps20 aka Dark NT MAGA will return. LFG

In addition to that, both of these influencers and their viewers are basically persona non grata in eachothers' community. The word Destiny is banned in Hasan Piker's chat, to give you an idea of the disdain between these communities.
Typical leftists... They'd rather argue about who's purer than the other instead of establishing common ground and turning their audience into a political force. It's no wonder they exhibit the same behavior when they get off the screens and it's time to deal with the nuances of democracy.
Right-leaning podcasters keep their beefs under the radar for the sake of their greater good, which is a very sad observation to make with respect to the Left.

One thing I will say, is the FUNDING of the wars in Ukraine & Israel…..REALLY F’d the democrats up.

Trying to explain geopolitics to people struggling to get by….when they see numbers like $400 million to __every month in the headlines is impossible.
The sad thing is that Ukraine is one of the world’s largest wheat producers and the loss of their wheat production is a part of why food is so expensive. The reality is that geopolitics can directly impact prices and other things. Dems should’ve highlighted how the Republican tax cuts for big corporations not only didn’t result in trickle down benefits for people but these corporations pocketed the money, bought back their shares to increase their share price and still raised prices.

Yeah this really reminded me of when Trump said “there were some very fine people on both sides” during that white supremacist rally where a protestor against the rally was killed in Charlottesville in 2017.

Like if you hold any significant level of influence, your rhetoric absolutely makes a difference.

Funding Ukraine was never about funding the war to fight Russia via proxy.

It was always to set up the precedent that we would not leave allies in the dust in the event they are attacked/invaded. Same thing in a different way with Israel.

All of this was to show China that if they ever invaded Taiwan (where the chips in many/all of our devices come from), we would not mess around.
Sorry but no, funding Ukraine wasnt for that reason. It was always about basically having Ukraine in your control after the war's over because they cant possibly repay you ergo installing military bases close to Russia's border basically getting close as possible to Moscow. I promise you if Ukraine wasnt on the border with Russia the US wouldnt care this much about sending money. And one can hardly call Ukraine an ally

It’s all copium from extremists though-you saw crazy MAGA extremists storm the US Capitol building on Jan 6, 2021 because the misinformation that spread in their online echo chambers led them there.

The vast majority of voters on either side aren’t represented by these people. If that were the case, you would be having FAR more insane candidates than what we currently have in the general election.

NT in a nutshell!

^^^^^^^^^^^^This is NT in a nutshell.

You're not listening. You're still not listening. And some of us are tired of dragging folks out of the mud without being rewarded for it.

You have your perspective on the current state of this thread, and I have mine. The tone and nature of our discussion closely resemble the dynamic in the recent The View clip. I'm not sure if your comment refers to the overall tone of the thread since its creation, but I’m specifically speaking about the recent developments.

I think the one that's not listening is you!

It feels like the conversation is being framed as if it’s "you versus the opposition" within this thread. That’s just not it!

Edit: I can see how my comment come across as general. It was meant specifically for NT in the current moment, rather than ever or overall.

Mannnn. One of the big reasons I thought KH would take MI (as well as PA/WI)

Democrats in the MI state government have done a lot for working people and getting rid of right to work laws which was a huge priority for the unions

And the unions won some big contracts that will increase pay for autoworkers by a lot. They did that with Biden's support and not Trump's

Meanwhile you have Elon going around to all the battleground states literally promising temporary economic hardship. **** makes zero sense

Ukraine became a casualty of the longstanding proxy-war with Russia and there was little the US gov could've done by that time to block Putin from moving on them after he got away with annexing Crimea years back.

Now the politcal capital that was burned to prop up and steadfastly support an extremist Likud governments crusade for expansion, which is intrinsically linked to Netanyahu's own political and legal survival, will never be understood by me.

Especially when NONE of this unwavering support that was provided, even as it devolved into the pariah rogue state ala Apartheid South Africa that they're viewed as worldwide now, was ever enough to deter them from actively undermining the Democratic party, undercuting the ceasefire and hostage negotiations and supporting Trump.

All at a time where the prevailing and long held public attitudes and positon on the issue have dramatically flipped the other way and likely for good the way things are headed.

It's like helping out a friend through a hard time and holding them down the entire time only for them to come back and spit in your face before teaming up with your biggest enemy when the time comes that you need a hand. Obama knew all about Bibi's duplicity.

Forget about the moral cost, what was the outcome politcally?

Hemorrhaging the Muslim vote in key states where it was won with ease last time? Depressing enthusiasm from the youth portions of the base? Killing off all future prospects of a 2-state solution for good? Trump and Elon still hammered the message of her being BOTH anti and pro-Israel regardless, with targeted ads towards both sides.

Was it all worth it in the end? The extreme one-sidedness of it resulted in Dems getting burned emphatically and all of the bad actors involved getting everything they always wanted and then some while staking out a supporting role in crimes against humanity as part of your legacy...

I just don't get people like her.

So not voting for Harris and letting a guy win who'll allow Israel to crank the genocide up to 10 is the answer? I guess when the Palestinians have been nearly wiped out and they don't have a homeland at all anymore, at least people like her can sleep well at night.

I felt the same way—during the vote count, as undecided states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Georgia were coming in, I genuinely thought Kamala Harris had a strong path to victory. It thought that the worked the current Democrats were doing in those states for its people should have had the momentum in her favor.

She’s trying to take some sort of moral high ground. Kamala said she wanted to work towards a peaceful resolution, Trump said Israel is needs to finish the job.

“Give me liberty or give me death!”
- Protestor for Palestine, probably

“Ok, death.”
- Trump

I mean this has already become reality right now which is those peoples point, Gaza is completely destroyed as of today.

They're upset the administration never offered anything material outside platitudes about working on a non-existent peace process (non-existent only because Netanyahu would never allow/accept a real one, he turned down all of the hostages being freed over a year ago and the hostage families are continously fighting the government to take it seriously) and imaginary red lines that were crossed constantly without consequence. Especially when we've had hawkish republican administrations in the past threatening to leverage/condition aid for much less than what the Likud government is responsible for. GOP Jesus himself, Reagan, even threatened to cut arms shipments before.

That worst case scenario under Trump has genuinely already happened for a lot of those folks over the last year, countless families being annihilated and zero chance/hope of ever being allowed back, so it's hard for people like that to even contemplate worse after living an ongoing nightmare for well over a year now. The fact is that this happened under a Dem admin unfortunately so that was always going to have an impact on the affected groups and those sympathetic to their cause come ballot time.

True….but Nobody is trying to hear that, when they’re broke….and see 400 million sent to Ukraine as a daily headline. As fed up as it seems, it’s just. Hard to cut thru. Evil Genius move by Putin invading at the time he did

As frustrating as it may be, if there’s any comfort to be found, it’s in the fact that after every bad administration in recent history, a great one has followed. Since George H.W. Bush, each presidency has been succeeded by an administration that brought beneficial changes to the economy or contributed to the well-being of the American people. Bill Clinton followed Bush Sr., Barack Obama followed Bush Jr., and Joe Biden followed Donald Trump—each building on prior progress while tackling new challenges. So, looking ahead, who's next to lead for the Democrats?

That’s just a stupid cycle. Republicans destroy everything. Democrats come in and clean up the mess while Republicans blame Democrats for the mess they made. Republicans win after everyone buys into the propoganda. Republican deatroy everything.

Repeat.

Now imagine if those democrats you named didn’t have to clean up messes before starting on the actual positive

Ain’t a coincidence that every single republican administration in most of our times on this earth have led to serious financial problems

Even for biden it was pretty much assumed to be a given that a recession was coming, until his administration’s policies prevented it.. and yet look how he gets spoken of

The funniest thing about the Harris campaign rolling with the Cheneys is that they had no purchase with Republicans. If anything, being reminded of the Bush era, probably mobilized some Republicans.

I know it feels like lifetimes ago, but in 2015-2016, Trump repudiating the Bushes and the Cheneys was a big part of his appeal to GOP primary voters.

Interestingly, the prevalence of wounded veterans, per capita, was a pretty strong predictor of how GOP primary voters would vote in a particular.

MAGAs hate neocons, as do liberals, as do leftists, as do libertarians, as do Hari Krishna’s, as do the Shriners, as do Magic the Gathering clubs, as do…
