***Official Political Discussion Thread***

The left wingers in here still don’t get it. Pointing to ******** arguments that Trump this and Trump that. Normal people don’t give a ishhh about that. They care about economy, safety and providing for their families. Demorats for ages say they are for blue collar and working people when in reality they haven’t done ishh for them. This red wave was a reminder to them, that you can talk a good game, but you need to show results. Say what you want about Trump, but he resonates with people and the issues. Is the guy perfect?? No no one is, but people wanted a big change of where the country was heading.

What did he do for the working class during his first term?

What are his plans this term?

All of what you said sounds really good, but we’re gonna need something to back it up. Otherwise you’re just talking outta your ***.

So Trump is going to do more corporate mergers, lower interest rates, and tariffs. All extremely inflationary.

I got to admit.

Ninjahood legitimately voted his own interests. If he is still sitting on Porsche money’s worth of DS’s, in a couple years, he will be able to sell them off for a five bedroom house in the suburbs money.

He believed in Papi and in the end, Papi made fortune smile on him.

We do.
You don't read, you don't want to, and you're proud of it.
Pointing to ******** arguments that Trump this and Trump that. Normal people don’t give a ishhh about that. They care about economy, safety and providing for their families.
And Trump is going to give them none of that and take the little bit they had.
Demorats for ages say they are for blue collar and working people when in reality they haven’t done ishh for them.
Democrats increased the threshold that would make overtime pay mandatory, they kick-started programs that would give jobs to blue collar folks in the districts that hate them, they reinstated programs that facilitate access to information and jobs (like expanding internet access, controlling the cost of internet, and net neutrality), they made it more difficult for companies to gouge people (one-click subscription cancellation policy, and they gave more power to unions, which is a huge factor in maintaining the earning power of workers without college degrees.

If you don't know any of this, that is your fault. It's your responsibility to stay informed as a voter.
This red wave was a reminder to them, that you can talk a good game, but you need to show results.
Some results show up immediately, others take time to implement. That's the nature of policy implementation.

Again, it's your duty to know and understand this as a voter.

Say what you want about Trump, but he resonates with people and the issues. Is the guy perfect?? No no one is, but people wanted a big change of where the country was heading.
Demagogues always resonate well with people, especially those who want easy solutions to hard problems.

It won't take long for the national crying to start. And if you're surprised, you can't come back here and search all the posts warning folks about what he would do.

In fact, companies are already starting to tighten the belt and are laying people off in anticipation of the cost increases they'll have to deal with once he takes power.

This is not a reassuring post.

It sucks to live in countries like those.

This is a pretty good read for anyone who's worried about a worst case scenario happening.

TLDR: Basically, it's going to be really hard for Trump to become a fascist dictator, and he really doesn't have enough time. It's worth pointing out on the judiciary side that, while about 25% of judges are Trump appointees, the other 75% are not. Not to mention the Trump picks didn't always do what he wanted.

Any analysis that relies on Republicans not falling in line is flawed IMO.

American authoritarianism is more likely to resemble the one-party system that is already in place in red states. Look at Texas, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi: despite being let down by their government, folks in those states can't get rid of them because GOPers have rigged the electoral system to guarantee they'll never lose the majority. They then use a combination of regulatory powers and media capture to drive all kinds of opposition away from the states in order to polarize the voting population to their side.

With Trump, they now have the means to do the same thing in DC: they will dismantle the federal government and make more loyal to the GOP; there already defunded PBS and may force it to feature more conservative pundits in exchange for funding; the mass deportations are an attempt to polarize the population more to their side. Finally, they intend to politicize law enforcement and/or the military to make sure that they can apply violence unopposed if soft coercion doesn't work.

Personally while I think Dems can use some rebranding, hindsight tells me for this election in particular the American electorate was going to be unreachable regardless of messaging. Dems said we’re going to build more houses to lower prices and give you money for a down payment, we’re going to make it easier for you to start your own business, we’re going to give your more tax relief than rich folks, and we’re going to stop companies from price gouging you on medication, groceries, and all necessities. America still overwhelming chose the guys who’s only stated plans were to make things more expensive. If that’s how folks were moving, this election was going to be un winnable for any Democrat.

Assuming our democracy can survive, for next 2-4 years Dems just need to let voters feel the weight of their choice and let unbridled republicanism/trumpism lose in the marketplace of ideas in real time. I’m already seeing this start to play out. I live in New Jersey, right outside of Philadelphia and work in manufacturing so theres probably an over representation of people who voted Trump where I work. It was celebrations on Wednesday at the water cooler but the rest of the week it was “my kids won’t talk to me” “our friends blocked us on Facebook” “ my girlfriend broke up with me”. If we’re going with vibes, let the vibes settle in. Let them feel it. At the same time Dems shouldn’t let trump and Republican messaging even get the tiniest foot hold on trying to claim any of the fruits of Biden’s presidency as their own. Not the lowered inflation rates, not the unemployment, not the record number of small businesses started, not the record low child poverty rates due to the increased child tax credit, not the boost in US manufacturing. If theres anything Dems can spend money on now it’s make sure that’s pounded into people’s heads whether they believe it or not. Voters might have acted like it doesn’t matter this election but the second things start going bad or it becomes evident that they can’t deliver on anything, Trump and Republican will try take credit for everything. Don’t let them mask their legislative failure.

And lastly, because Dems have no federal stage, nationalize state and local politics in messaging and in the media. Over emphasize the success dem governed states and counties all year round and blast the comparison to red states. High light state legislation passed that helps people, and over emphasize what republicans are doing and how it’s harming the people they govern.

Unfortunately Some of this requires those that effed around to be the victims of finding out, but it is what it is. Before Dems figure out who they have to coddle to win elections again, America’s gonna have to get slapped around by the choices they made and get its face rubbed in it.

On the bright side for the folks who had the sense to not vote for Trump, you’re probably already more mentally equipped than most to navigate these next 4 years. Earn more, invest more, spend time with people that matter.

Sums up a lot of folks frustration about the far left and on this issue not even being allowed to be TALKED about.

I know some will dismiss this because "Transphobe Riley Gaines" posted it but that doesn't erase what happened on that set.

It's almost as if these people are more focused on punishing Democrats than doing anything to help the people in Gaza. It's like they're no longer thinking about how to make things better for people in Gaza. Don't they know the Trump administration will be just as bad, if not worse?

They're acting like they won. What did they win?

When you use disrespectful language, you lose the right to be respected in return.

He hasn't been stopped from talking; nobody left the table. He's just been asked to be respectful, and not only will he not do that, he chooses to hide behind "regular people."

There are still a lot of places in this country where "regular people" don't let minorities hang out with, date, or marry their relatives.

And I respond (respectfully), that the idea that calling someone what they are is being disrespectful is an issue that some folks have with the far left. To many, it's illogical and it makes people feel like their common sense is being toyed with.

So many progressives thinks words are magic incantations,

and if you say the right words people will stop believing certain things. It doesn't work this way.

People are totally willing to call people by chosen gender markers, to let people use the bathroom that makes them feel comfortable.

But there is no combination of words that will make a majority of Americans think that it's cool for them to play in female sports. I'm sorry.

You either need to change peoples minds on this or come to terms with it. Language policing does nothing.

that the idea that calling someone what they are
He wasn't calling them what they are.

This is the issue. You think you get to define others as you see fit, but you get upset when others do the same to you.

it's illogical and it makes people feel like their common sense is being toyed with.

Unfamiliarity with an issue/topic doesn't give you (or anyone) the license to redefine it as they see fit.

The other guy wouldn't have interjected if "trans girl" instead of "biological boy" was used, and the whole discussion wouldn't have been sidetracked.

This is the hypocrisy of critics of the "far" left. They do just as much lecturing as they accuse the far left of doing, and they are not interested in challenging their own preconceived ideas about things they barely understand. When it gets pointed out, it becomes all about "regular people" and "common sense."

Hopefully, the Democratic Party does some soul-searching. The way that supporters of the Democratic Party engage with others—even on forums like this—is not the best way to draw others to that side.

Telling people “if you don’t agree with me you’re an uneducated or ignorant, selfish, self-hating, racist and/or fascist” is a terrible campaign strategy. And if it’s not the campaign strategy, then individuals who spew that messaging online are doing a disservice to their cause.

This is precisely what I had in mind when making the comment.
Your bum attitude AS WELL *** the echo chamber this place HAS BEEN, since I been in here.

Hence the “it’s good to know” smart ***
Why don’t you ******* chill with all the back handed remarks and slow down for a few days wit the rest of the thread leading me to make such a comment and stop repeating the cess I’ve seen since being here.
You make a claim, claim is refuted, I point out that you don’t know what you’re talking about and this is your response. But I’m the one with an issue?

Typing curse words doesn’t prove a point any further. Your fragility is shining through.

You really have no shame

Alternatively, we can let unbridled Trump style conservatism deliver none of the things it promises and let people feel the weight of their actions 🤷🏿‍♂️

If not feeling “attacked” is worth it, let them put the economic well being of themselves and their loved ones on the line.

He's better than me because I would have told him to **** before I shut him the **** up.

We have to have a real convo and just be honest. This is a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, white supremacist, Stockholm syndrome having country full of ppl that vote against their own interests because of brainwashing, the lack of a will to understand, miseducation, etc.

Dude can't even get his point out which sadly is a valid one in this wicked land.

The democratic establishment isn't in alignment with the base and the base isn't in alignment with itself so there's that. We need to fix this **** immediately and even then we are up against a nation full of very very stupid ppl.
