***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Well I live in NoVa, Alexandria City to be more specific and it's ridiculously diverse out here as well as liberal. But I will say I live in an economic bubble, because of the federal government this area will always flourish economically which makes it difficult to understand the hardships of people in other parts of the country. But because I keep my finger on the pulse it's easy to know what keeps people up at night, and I promise you it isn't voter suppression, the illegal immigrant wall, or transgender bathrooms, it's the economy, stupid.

(That last part was James Carville, I'm not calling you stupid)
Well at least this is progress. Unlike da Ninja, you can actually admit that you may not always fully understand people in different situations.

I'm guessing this is also why you deny/dismiss voter suppression; you don't personally come in contact with it and struggle to empathize with those who do. Which is understandable I suppose.

If you lived in a state like Wisconsin or North Carolina and were less well off economically, perhaps your view would be a whole lot different. Because you could be one of the many African-Americans targeted by GOP leadership to suppress your vote. The statistics, testimonies and further evidence are clear. In the case of NC even a longtime NC republican consultant explicitly said the voter ID law was made to disenfranchise black voters.

This election has essentially legitimized such practices, as the GOP strongly supports strict voter ID laws and defends them to the very end when courts shut them down for being racially discriminatory. Trump has also supported NC's voter ID law after the court struck down most of it for "targeting African-Americans with almost surgical precision"

I'm sure voter suppression doesn't keep most of the country awake at night, but it is most certainly an issue for those who are victims of it. It is something that should worry African-Americans and latinos, as they are always the main victims of these practices. With Trump's victory, I don't think it's all that unlikely that these kind of voter suppression practices will spread to many more states. And that should worry anyone who believes in democracy and equal rights, whether it personally affects you or not.

One more thing: voter suppression tactics from the right that explicitly targeting voting patterns of Black people suggest that racism is more than fear mongering. Is there an equivalent to the Washington Heights bubble in VA? You seem to live in it.

care to elaborate on da voter suppression that happened in Michigan? Pennsylvania? 8o

I am not "well off" just a single dude trying to flourish.

And at the end of the day at some point you have to take your life in your own hands. If voter suppression in NC is as bad as people say it is then why would anyone want to stay there? If you're somewhere that you have no political recourse then go somewhere you do. Or get a damn valid ID.

Clinton failed to galvanize her base... period.

liberals still asking questions on why she lost is extremely bone headed :lol

I've been having back and forth arguments with my best friend who voted Trump for days now.

He kept coming back to Obamacare. He kept coming back to that guys like us shouldn't be carrying the burden for people's Healthcare.

I told him last night, that making the kind of money I make, in a normal election where the Republican candidate isn't spreading racist, xenophobic and sexist rhetoric, dividing and pointing us at each other, I would probably consider moving to the right on health care. Maybe.

But this election is the wrong time to take a stand on Healthcare. You simply can't overlook the rhetoric Trump has spread on the way to the top. It just makes america more dangerous for minorities.

He hasn't responded back to me since

Idk. He's not racist. But I feel like he just didn't understand that Trump pointing at illegals Mexicans and Muslims makes it a toxic environment for other minorities too. He was selfish with the every man for himself mentality.
Obamacare is trying to make everyone insured.. What happens when an uninsured person goes to the hospital? They are provided care. Who pays for it? The hospital and the insured/taxpayers. When hospitals get too many uninsured patients, they bear the costs, and the insured peoples' premiums go up as well. When the hospitals get too many uninsured, they can SHUT DOWN, those costs still need to be paid and are spilled over to other hospitals. If everyone is insured, the premiums WILL go DOWN and everyone will be insured.

If we let everyone be uninsured, our insurance premiums go up, and our taxes are paying for them..

Ninjahood, stop it. You have been backing the Republican party since you have been a member here(Bush, McCain, Romney, etc). Eventually the Republican party would win a Presidential election. What's the saying, a broken clock is right twice a day.

Rico indifference to black people's voting rights being suppressed is ******* disgusting

I'm shocked you even show your face in this thread. If I was petty I'd go back and find those gifs you planned on posting when your precious Hildawg wiped the floor with Trump.

And as I've always said I have neither the time nor energy and resources to be mad all the time like you guys are. I do what I have to do. And if that means traveling to another district on a bus to go to the DMV to get an ID so I can vote, I will. People need to look out for themselves and stop looking to the government to make their lives better. Learned helplessness is running rampant and it's people like you that fan those flames. And the even crazier part is that you still pushing the same narrative you pushed on the 7th.

i wasn't old enough to vote in 2000, i voted for kerry in 2004, Obama in 2008, 2012.

i just got tired of liberal identity politics.

and once their over reach of regulations started affecting my love of automobiles, it was da last straw.

"People need to loom out for themselves and stop looking to the government to make their lives better."

Isn't this the reason damn near all trump supporters voted for him?

Don't they think their lives will be better under him?

You really are a piece of work thinking that any Black person that complains about blatant racism are looking for handouts :{

Rusty is a arrogant liberal that thinks he knows better... Trump also won as a personal EFFF YOU to liberals smugs like Rusty.

You a grown man more concerned with the type of engine in your non-existent OG muscle car than the rights of people who look like you. :|

Mental capacity of a child.

I won't speculate about those two states, even though a lot could be infered for the disdain the governor of Michigan has shown to his poor constituents in Flint. However, in NC:

Good job editing out one part of my post. If you had posted the previous sentence, your response would hold no water.

Your stance holds no water with or without the rest of your sh_ post

Except it does. I gave an example of someone going the extra mile (literally) to get a valid ID in order to vote. But it seems like many people aren't willing to do so because they're waiting on the government to do it for them.

So then shut your mouth about what black people should do, and vote for, if you don't even give a damb you people's civil rights are being rolled back

When white supremacy bearing down on your people, you say with an excuse for it.

And like Osh said, stop thinking the world has changed because Trump won.

You scurried away from him too when you thought the L was coming. Mr. Write in Rubio

They wouldn't have to do any of that if the law wasn't put in place to suppress their vote in the 1st place.

The fact that you know this and know who are in favor/benefiting from these laws makes you even more of a clown.

Automobiles tho :rollin :rollin

Dudes fighting for equal rights and this guy talmbout automobiles

It's wild because my man don't emmm got one.

As a lover of big engine muscle cars that actually owns one that **** ain't that serious to where I'm making voting decisions based on it.

As long as they kept selling the money was going to talk in the end either way
