An infuriated Mr. Putin has called the [Magnitsky Act] an “outrageous act,” and, in addition to banning American adoptions, compiled what became known as an “anti-Magnitsky” blacklist of United States citizens.

Among those blacklisted was Preet Bharara, then the United States district attorney in Manhattan, who led high-profile convictions of Russian arms and drug dealers. Mr. Bharara was abruptly fired in March, after previously being asked to stay on by Mr. Trump.

One of Ms. Veselnitskaya’s clients is Denis Katsyv, the Russian owner of a Cyprus-based investment company called Prevezon Holdings. In a civil forfeiture case prosecuted by Mr. Bharara’s office, the Justice Department alleged that Prevezon had helped launder money tied to a corruption scheme exposed by Mr. Magnitsky by parking it in New York real estate and bank accounts. As a result, the government froze $14 million of its assets. Prevezon recently settled the case for $6 million without admitting wrongdoing.

Anyone else proud of Ivanka? Don was too DAPPER for the SNOWFLAKES that he had to leave and let them wallow in their LIBBIE TEARS. Ivanka though DAPPER in her own right isn't Don but she wowed the G20 with ELITE level moves they haven't seen across the Atlantic. COMRADE COLUMBIA will confirm.

Often politics deals in ephemeral ideas, subjective ideas, ideas about how well off we are, how confident we might be about the future, how safe we feel. Decades of political focus on the dismal science of economics has enabled this. Politics can become a confidence game.

But sometimes politics comes up hard against reality.

For months now, Malcolm Turnbull, Josh Frydenberg, various fossil fuel energy executives and media commentators like Paul Kelly have been rabbiting on about the “energy trilemma”. It’s their contention that energy policy must deal with cost, reliability and emissions, and that it is impossible to achieve all three at the same time. Conveniently, they choose to put emissions at the bottom of this list and bury it under a pile of coal, which they claim is cheap and reliable.

This is not true. Not even close to it. It doesn’t stand up to basic scrutiny.

Renewable energy, which obviously wins on emissions, is now beating coal on cost. What’s more, with an energy grid managed effectively by people who want renewables to succeed, it is no less reliable than fossil fuels. The fact that arch-conservative, Cory Bernardi, was recently revealed to have installed rooftop solar panels demonstrates that these people do not even believe their own rhetoric. They have just chosen to throw truth onto the fire of climate change for political reasons.

I completely agree with Klein

I was listening to Kleins podcast with conservative wonk Avik Roy, and I actually think conservatives have some reasonable ideas that could improve healthcare...

but Avik like many conservative wonks don't seem to understand that their party is committed to racism and tax cuts for wealthy to the exclusion of everything else. :lol

Conservative wonks are so oblivious :lol

The best hope that they have for any of their good ideas to be insider are Blue Dog Democrats

Decade after decade they see their ideas abandoned by the GOP and decade after decade they act shock at how far right the GOP as moved

A know nothing moron like Paul Ryan is considered a policy genius now. All these fools either gonna end up in the Centerist Left Refuge camp or wait up Dems get back power so they can delude themselves that the GOP would actually take either advice if they had the chance.

It's cool, Don asked Vlad if Russia is hacking. Vlad said no. We're ok, guys.

What more do THESE PEOPLE WANT? Papa Vlad ALREADY confirmed our Russian allies had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HACKING. That's all the confirmation WE NEED. PEOPLE HAVE the wrong mindset. Tin foil hat LIBBIES DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT BEING DAPPER. ALL they know IS conjecture and innuendo rather than FAX UPON FAX MACHINE UPON FACSIMILE.
