On the one hand, libertarian is a lot better than doctrinaire conservative. I'll take Rand Paul over Ted Cruz every day of the week and yet, I completely agree with your point.
The refrain "I'm fiscally conservative but socially liberal" is meant to convey the idea that the speaker is much more tolerant and open minded and cosmopolitan than those bad Republicans in flyover Country. However, the refrain very often means "I want taxes lowered on my trust fund BUT I also want to make it easier to score oxycontin and to scare up some bisexual call girls" or "I'll defend Lloyd Blankfein's property right over his post bailout bonuses but hey, I don't beat up gay men on the street."

I have a high end clientele.... and up until trump started winning they were lamenting having hillary/a democrat as president...Man please. It's going to take them a full 8 years to get their **** together, won't be surprised if Bloomberg runs in 2020 after Trump gets washed and is no longer a factor.
