Amid immigration debate, feds moving ahead with land seizures for South Texas border wall

At a briefing in McAllen earlier this week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection told a group of South Texas officials the federal government plans to move forward with private land seizures in the Rio Grande Valley to build sections of President Trump’s border wall.

im tryna figure out why a wall costs billions of dollars
not only that
the government can pay that to fix a wall
but got so many homeless folks
including homeless veterans
in our country
us is so *** backwards

They don’t want to see the people flourish. If i was president i would want my country to have the best so my people can be the best they can be.

The government restructuring released today by OMB was lowkey a disaster ... Not everyone is cut out to be cutthroat and move at a contractor's pace ... I feel bad for many of my friends, coworkers, employees and others who are going to get eaten alive ...

Trump estimate: $8-$12 billion.

Bunch of different estimates by third parties:

Up to $25 billion

Drain the swamp though

Drain the swamp though
That's exactly what it is going to do ... Drain the swamp of mediocre talent ... The question becomes what do they do? How do people who have no marketable skills and stale experience transition to a high pace and on demand work environment? They just can't do it ...

This is the RIGHT thing to do ... But it is not the NICE thing to do ... A common theme with this administration ...

So I'm reading this article and this tells me what is about to happen

Education: The organization’s recommendations for the Education Department included an extensive effort to consolidate the Performance Improvement Office, Risk Management Service and the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization into a public-private partnership. Heritage would also eliminate the Office of Educational Technology, “scale back” the Office for Civil Rights, and consolidate several other offices that have “similar missions.”

Environmental Protection Agency: Heritage proposed a broad restructuring of EPA, including a number of office closures and shifting of responsibilities to individual state regulators.

The proposal eliminated the Office of Public Engagement and Environmental Education, which Heritage said “is largely focused on generating agency propaganda,” and would close all 10 of EPA’s regional offices.

“States are better equipped to customize policies for local conditions, and land owners have greater incentives than the government to protect private property,” the think tank wrote. “Both groups can act regionally when there are cross-border components to environmental issues. There is no need for the EPA’s 10 regional offices, which interfere with state conservation activities and expose citizens to regulatory redundancy.”

The plan also would shift Superfund cleanup management to state regulators, and give states “all authority” for implementing and enforcing provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Veterans Affairs: The Heritage Foundation’s plan for the Veterans Affairs Department would amount to a full redesign of the agency’s structure. The think tank proposed the closure of at least 42 offices, and the consolidation of at least 31 offices tasked with performance analysis.

Small agency closures: Heritage advocated for the abolition of eight independent agencies often targeted by conservatives and Republican administrations.

Among agencies on the chopping block would be the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Export-Import Bank. Heritage’s proposal also would eliminate the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities, as well as the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

The proposal recommended working with Congress to privatize the functions of—and then eliminate—the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

OMB has confirmed that, after many delays, its reorganization plan will be released “later this month.”

Based on this, how will this make the government anymore efficient? These are really just cost cutting measures for the tax bill that just passed.
So congrats for increasing unemployment and reducing protections just for tax cuts.

These proposals are not designed to make the federal government more efficient. They are designed to break up the USA. The federation is meaningless if every state can do its own thing with no input from all other members of the federal union.

The GOP position towards the federal government is no different than the Russian position towards NATO and the EU. What other reason does Putin have to sponsor Le Pen, Brexit and any other Euro politician/party that wants to separate from the EU?

This restructuring crap is really just budget cuts to programs that have been essential to the American public for years! Republicans have done a great job spinning it into “efficiency”, but from my experience interning for a huge city government, budget cuts and reducing staff tend to lead to delays in projects.

Trump and his clan want to break up and dismantle the federal government, which right now is the only thing that protects the rights of minorities even if they do a crappy job of it. Let Trump get his way he will set this country back over 50 years, domestically and internationally. There is your MAGA.
