Yeah that was my thinking., even if I'm not qualified I was going to ask the hiring manager if they knew of any other managers looking for someone with my type of qualifications and experience. Since these are all internal positions.

Good thread guys. I was gonna try to learn Java last year but moved and a lot of other ****, so that may be something I put back on my plate for the year (after I do the CCNA, god I gotta stop procrastinating

Are you going to buy a Cisco home lab? I'd highly suggest that because even though the simulators are good, there's still some things that can happen that you need to be able to resolve that aren't accurately represented on the software simulator labs. You can find a good used one on Ebay for around $200, but you have to make sure you have the correct model of Cisco router and switches for the IOS images.
One perk of my current gig is the company is a Cisco partner and my dept configs and deploys the equipment, so we have a literal warehouse of Cisco IADs and switches at arm's reach
so I just have set aside some time and stick with it to get nicer.

For me, it's hard to find information about programing related topics that are broken down to a level where it's easily understandable. When I try to find info, I just come by all sorts of jargon and overly technical explanations.

Currently doing my last semester for a bachelors in Comp. Science. Did some intelligence work in the military so I have a security clearance. I didn't do any internships so I have minimal experience apart from the military. What are my chances of landing a federal job straight out of college? What are my chances of landing a job overall? I live in the DMV area btw.
I plan on doing all the job fairs my school offers in the spring which I've heard will get your foot in the door somewhere but do any of you industry/gov employees have any tips?
I keep reading the Computer Science field is in high demand, I think even Pres. Obama talked about it in a speech, so I guess I will find out for myself come springtime.

Amazes me how some people go all 4 years without doing any serious research of the job outlook and average starting salary of their major. That isn't directed towards you specifically but it's very common for college students.
IMO landing a federal job is possible, but their process is super slow could be 6+ months until you start. You will do fine out here start applying to jobs asap, you really should have started applying in the fall. A secret clearance will helpful but most are looking for TS holders you may have a TS with your intel background. Definitely put your Intel experience on your resume.
Apply to everything that is junior level even some mid level positions. Look on usajobs.gov , look on all of the government contractor websites, and all of the other companies in the area. Hundreds of companies to choose from very hard not to land a job here in CS. Really try to look for jobs saying they will sponsor your TS/SCI if you are in to securing your future out here. That clearance is the golden ticket, good luck.

THIS! Especially if those positions are in house and you can network with some of the people who are in that role/division. You never know where the agency's needs are at, and you might be able to come up.
I want to work with Oracle. I met an Oracle guy at a agency-wide meeting ONCE in April 2015. Said hello, shook his hand, asked him a couple questions, told him I'm interested, and sent him an email as follow up... Never heard back. He randomly emailed me in January to ask if I was still interested. It turns out they can't get any qualified candidates for their mid-level Oracle DBA positions and, in management's desparation for qualified DBA's, they might be willing to overlook the experience requirements and let me "intern" as a DBA while I'm working as an analyst in a hybrid role.
Still have to talk it over with management (and I'm definitely not touching Oracle without a raise,) but ya boy might be a legit DBA soon

Not sure they had a bunch of courses listed email, but it doesn't take anything to try the code with whatever course you're interested in. The deal was for $24, but I was trying out different code myself in the promo field and ran across that.

Been breezing through FCC, good refresher since I haven't done web design since college, and Javascript has been easy so for since I've done OOP before so the concepts are easy its just remembering certain syntax. MY goal is to knock this out by summer and then start doing some side stuff to build a portfolio and then begin study for some certs.

FCC will also help with your portfolio since they offer non-profit volunteering after you've gotten your full-stack development cert from them. My goal is to get to that point by July. Had a deep talk w/ the mrs and realized that I was being extremely lazy and making excuses for why I haven't been on it as I should have been; can't keep dodging JS.
I've also been reading up more on Bootstrap. I understood the basic concepts but reading more tutorials on Tutorials Point, I'm realizing that some of the things I've been trying to do in CSS could be done in Bootstrap and a little better as far as responsiveness.

I have made basic pages so far. I took some days off from FCC and I got back and was totally lost on the two Object Properties modules before the JSON module. I`m hoping it is due to them being poorly written or something.
The earlier JS labs I breezed through but it seems the stuff fI just got to they aren't doing a good job explaining WHY they came to the solution or why you should use a certain syntax, they are just asking you to do stuff. IDK if I need to go back and revist some labs or what.
