Read a lot of tweets from the beat writers that Banks didn't look good at all in this game. Hopefully he isn't a bust.

Saw the highlights from the game and man, Trey made that 80 yard pass to Sherfield look easy. He also made some nice throws that were dropped.

Woerner looked good in the game.

Hufanga I hope does well enough to get PT this season.

Sermon and Hasty looked nice.

Jennings looked like he's ready to prove folks wrong this season. I hope he gets his chance to shine.

Excited for this Niners team. Let's go!

Plain and simple, you can’t be dropping a vet QBs passes, let alone a rookie in his first game. If those balls are caught, it’s a completely different 2nd quarter for Trey. The confidence is different when you’ve thrown 3 beautiful passes that end up in positive gains. That ball to the deep out was an elite throw.

rough day for trey, Jimmy making his case today

“Today’s 49ers QB numbers… Jimmy Garoppolo: 12-17, INT, TD Trey Lance: 4-7, INT Garoppolo was a perfect 8-8 in move-the-ball. Lance was 1-3 with an INT that sailed high to new 49ers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix”

Definitely saw rust in Lance within the pocket, a few of his throws were easy picks. Still in favor of him being the starter and letting his game develop the way he plays the game. Other than that PA dart he looked to be doing his best Jimmy G impersonation out there under center.

IMO Lance had one great throw, a couple good throws, some throws that were not his fault bc dropped, and some clear bad throws.

he played with more backups than Jimmy g did for that one drive he was in… and clearly having guys like Kittle, Williams, Mack, and Juice in will bolster his game but there were still some obvious issues.

honestly though I was kind of pissed at Kyle Shanahan play calling more than anything. Easy example: it was 3rd and 9, you’re early in a preseason game that means nothing, I’m literally screaming at the TV “just have trey hand off the football”, nope he has trey dropped back to try to pick up the 3rd and 9 by passing…. and surprise surprise he gets sacked.

the fact that trey got sacked 4x (maybe 5?) and hit 7x in a game he basically played half of was pretty criminal.

it was shades of Kyle at the super bowl Atlanta vs Ne. Just hand off the ball man. I know you wanna see what trey’s got but after that 80 yard td bomb he threw they probably should have been close to calling it a night for him. That basically showed everything they needed to see from him in preseason game 1.

instead some of Kyles play calling and some bad o line play by Aaron banks and Daniel Brunskill wound up with trey getting hit too much

I know game 1 has no game planning but still they gotta plan to protect trey Better game 2

Agreed. We’re a run-centric offense, stick to what we know works best and get it in the air when the time presents itself. The bomb was all I needed to see, showed all of Trey’s strengths in one play. Trey needs first team reps to get a more consistent feel of how to operate with proper protection.

I will say this in Kyles defense - he must have seen some stuff in practice that gave him the confidence to let Trey go a bit. Letting him throw out of the end zone would indicate such. He must also have confidence in Treys mindset. He probably feels Trey can handle some mistakes, and bounce back from them quickly. I think those are good signs.

Damn, one preseason game and already analyzing the play-calling? lol Cmon man, isn't the game plan pretty simple during the first two games?

I don't care if its pre season or if there's "no game plan" you don't call this play in the first quarter of the first meaningless pre season game on 3rd and 8 with your supposed future of the franchise QB on the field.

it's "just pre season" until one of those hits totally ****s up his career before the reg szn even start

Why shouldnt have Kyle called that play? He played situational football, and that would have been a pass play in the regular season. How else Trey going to learn? Blame the O line for not being able to protect instead.

maybe he wanted to see if Trey would recognize the blitz which he didn't. #15 was wide open, he hits hit right after the snap and he doesn't need to take a hit

It’s 3rd and 8. You’re backed up in your own end zone. It’s preseason game 1. There are no playoff / seeding implications. Hand the ball off and punt it.

… or try to pick up a meaningless preseason down and have your top 3 pick QB sacked into oblivion 7 yRs behind the line of scrimmage.

I don’t get the confusion. There was nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

he had jajuan Jennings on the check down but that would maybe have picked up 1-2 yard beyond the line of scrimmage and no first down.

And if you watch the clip idk how you can blame the OL for that specific sack.

KC rushed more men than SF protected. Brhnskill got taken down by a double team and one of the guys who double teamed him sacked Trey.

you can’t really expect an online to win outnumbered for multiple seconds while theQB drops backfor a 6+ yard pass attempt
