I think it was already stated that his agent said that the Niners were giving fair offers, but he still wanted more.

A knock on Crabby was the people he surrounded himself with - as you can tell they're all in his ear thinking he deserves more money.

A part of me wants to see Crabtree go back into the draft and look like an idiot when he's drafted in the 3rd round but I'd much rather see him in a49er uniform.

49ers add Sheets to P-squad, go with Finley over Pascoe

It's funny how it all worked out. People were up in arms - and I expressed surprise that the 49ers would take the risk of losing a player like undrafted rookie running back Kory Sheets.

Perhaps the 49ers' brass knew what they were doing. None of the players they cut on Saturday was claimed off waivers today, including Sheets. And the 49ers did not make any waivers claims, either. However, the 49ers might still be interested in adding a veteran or two for insurance.

Sheets was quickly signed to the 49ers' practice squad, as the 49ers moved to fill those eight spots. Sheets does not have much value on special teams, at this stage, so he would not be suiting up for games, even if he had made the 49ers' 53-man roster.

In what might be a bit of a surprise, the 49ers decided to sign J.J. Finley to the practice squad over sixth-round draft pick Bear Pascoe, who is now looking to hook on with any team, said agent Ken Staninger. Coach Mike Singletary said Pascoe had a difficult time adjusting to the speed of the NFL from Fresno State. He said he needs to improve at blocking moving targets.

The 49ers signed seven players to their practice squad today:

Sheets, Finley, tackle Alex Boone, receivers Dominique Zeigler and Dobson Collins, fullback Brit Miller, and defensive tackle/offensive lineman Khalif Mitchell

UPDATE: The 49ers are one of the team's pursuing free-agent RT Tony Pashos, formerly of the Jaguars. The 49ers might have the best opportunity for Pashos, as the team has just one backup offensive tackle on their roster.

Niners looking at OT Pashos

The 49ers are taking a long look at tackle Tony Pashos, who is drawing interest around the league after being released by the Jaguars yesterday. The 6-6, 326-pound Pashos started all 16 games for the Jaguars last year. Jacksonville, however, drafted two tackles in April, Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton, and Pashos became expendable. The Jaguars asked Pashos to take a pay cut, and he refused. Pashos, 29, has missed one game in the last three years. He was a fifth-round selection by the Ravens in 2003. Three teams are believed to be interested in Pashos, including the 49ers.

The 49ers are looking at Pashos as a right tackle. They signed Marvel Smith in the offseason to play that position, but Smith's bad back never returned to normal, and he retired last month. As of now, Adam Snyder is the starter with Barry Sims backing him up.

As much I like Sheets, I would have rather him sign somewhere else where he can actually get playing time...

Pashos to 49ers

Free-agent tackle Tony Pashos, who landed on the market after refusing to take a pay cut to remain in Jacksonville, has agreed to terms with the 49ers,according to a league source.

Pashos is expected to sign a one-year deal.

The value of the contract currently is unknown, but there's a belief that he'll end up making significantly less than he could have gotten to stay withthe Jaguars.

As we understand it, the Jaguars wanted him to reduce his 2009 base salary from $4.3 million to $2.9 million. He refused, apparently believing he'd getmore elsewhere.

One source predicts that the deal in San Fran will be worth less than $2 million.

If so, that's one hell of a haircut.

thank goodness, the though of sims as the only backup was very scary.

Plus pashos is durable and was just caught in the numbers game in jax.

Btw, I'm gonna make this a season thread. Not a weekly game thread that's all you nt23, I'm just saying during the week any news and notes can goin here.

Lets go Crabby.. less than a week away from the opener. Hes putting a whole lot of pressure on himself..

20mil + bonus if you reach a certain amount of receptions.. if hes such a stud that should be no problem. Reminding me of Latrell Sprewell being so greedy.

In the end i obviously want to see him in a 49er uniform.. but damn Crabby 20+ mil is going to have you set for life

Yup.

Significant victory for Spencer, possibly 49ers

The 49ers' decision to name Shawntae Spencer as their starting cornerback opposite Nate Clements looks like a welcome development after the team lost Walt Harris to a season-ending injury during minicamps.

Dre Bly showed enough during training camp to project as a potential starter, but he's an older player best suited for a situational role. The team likes Tarell Brown as well, but injuries have slowed him and Brown lacks experience.

Having Spencer rise up and win the job less than one year after suffering a season-ending knee injury stands as a victory for Spencer and possibly the 49ers. Spencer started 13 games in 2006. The knee injury he suffered last season forced him to earn his way back. The standing he once enjoyed as a 2004 second-round draft choice no longer mattered.

Now comes the hard part: matching up against the Cardinals' receievers in Week 1.

Make sure you tell them arizona girls you got liquor and a lifted truck and panties are yours all night.
